Chapter 8 - The Deposition and the Public Exposure

By the end of the week, the fall of Eleanor’s family was total and unyielding.
Mark was held without bail at Rikers Island due to the severity of the felony wire fraud charges and his history of illegal gambling debts.
Chloe, desperate to avoid jail time as an accomplice, turned on her own husband, giving prosecutors access to Mark’s secret phone logs in exchange for a plea deal. But David ensured her mercy ended there: he filed a civil lawsuit against Chloe for corporate card misuse, freezing her personal bank accounts and seizing her designer handbag collection for liquidation.
On January 10th, David took the final, decisive step to ensure Eleanor could never re-enter their social circles under the guise of a "grieving, abandoned mother."
Eleanor was a prominent member of the St. Jude’s Women’s Charity League in Brooklyn—a high-society group where she frequently bragged about her "wealthy, devoted son" and posted photos of her luxurious lifestyle.
On the evening of their annual charity gala at the Grand Hyatt, where Eleanor was slated to receive an honorary board award, a legal delivery arrived at the event coordinator’s desk.
Attached was a video file marked: EXHIBIT A - EVIDENCE OF CHARITY BOARD MEMBER CONDUCT.
Before the award presentation began, while two hundred of Brooklyn’s wealthiest patrons were seated at round tables sipping champagne, the main projector screen lit up.
It wasn't Eleanor’s charity montage.
It was the clear, unedited 4K security footage from Park Slope.
The room fell into a stunned, breathless silence as Eleanor’s harsh voice resonated through the banquet hall speakers: “Leave two packs of instant noodles on the counter. If we leave her meat, she’ll just waste them.”
The video showed Maya weeping on the floor, Mark stealing the baby’s prescription formula, and Eleanor swiping David’s cards to pay for luxury clothes.
Gasps of horror echoed across the ballroom. Women covered their mouths; prominent businessmen shook their heads in utter disgust.
Eleanor, who had snuck into the back of the room wearing a borrowed dress hoping to collect her award, stood paralyzed as every single eyes in the room turned toward her.
The league president walked up to the microphone, her face pale with embarrassment and disgust.

“Security,” the president said into the microphone, her voice echoing through the hall. “Please escort Eleanor Vance off the premises immediately. Her membership is permanently revoked, and we will be turning this footage over to our legal counsel.”
Eleanor covered her face with her hands, screaming in shame as two security guards grabbed her arms and dragged her out through the side doors, while dozens of phones flashed, recording her absolute downfall for social media.
