Chapter 10 - Dawn on the Cliffs

The sun broke over the eastern horizon of Long Island, painting the Atlantic Ocean in brilliant shades of gold, rose, and amber.

The morning chill of autumn was beginning to settle over the cliffs, but inside the Rossi estate, the air was warm, smelling of fresh coffee, blooming roses from the conservatory garden, and the sweet, powdery scent of a baby waking up for the day.

In the master nursery—no longer a sterile medical box, but a bright, sunlit room filled with toys, books, and family portraits—little Leo stood up by holding onto the edge of his crib, letting out a cheerful, bubbling laugh as he saw the door open.

Hunter walked in first, wearing a soft cream cashmere sweater, carrying a warm bottle of milk. Behind her came Lorenzo, scooping up his son into his arms with a practiced, effortless strength, lifting the baby high into the air until Leo squealed with delight.

“Look at you, boss,” Hunter laughed, leaning against the crib with a bright, unburdened smile.

“He’s getting too heavy,” Lorenzo grin, settling the baby against his shoulder, though his grip remained fiercely, lovingly secure. “By next year, he’ll be running the estate.”

“God help us all,” Hunter joked.

They stood together by the massive floor-to-ceiling windows, watching the golden light flood across the rolling green lawns and down toward the jagged cliffs where the waves met the shore.

The past was gone. The ghosts of the car bomb, the poison in the formula, the hospital room in Manhattan, and the cold, lonely nights of grief had all been washed away by the relentless tide of time and survival.

They weren't just a mafia boss and a grieving maid anymore.

They were a family.

And as Lorenzo wrapped his free arm around Hunter’s waist, pulling her close against his side while their son reached out with tiny, perfect hands to touch their faces, the dark empire outside finally felt like home.
