Chapter 6 - The Corporate Executioner

The boardroom on the 70th floor of Lennox Global was usually a temple of quiet, calculated power. Mahogany tables gleamed under recessed lighting, and corporate titans negotiated multi-billion-dollar mergers over vintage scotch and quiet whispers.

Tonight, it was a war zone.

The floor-to-ceiling windows were dark against the raging storm outside, illuminated only by the strobe-like flash of distant lightning. Around the massive conference table sat the remaining members of the board of directors—six men and women dressed in expensive designer suits, their faces pale and anxious as they stared toward the head of the table.

Richard Vance sat in his usual seat to the right of the chairman’s chair. He was adjusting his silk tie, attempting to maintain an air of calm professional dignity, though a fine sheen of sweat coated his upper lip.

"Let's not overreact, ladies and gentlemen," Vance said, his voice smooth and measured. "Mr. Lennox’s personal tragedies are regrettable, of course. But corporate governance requires stability. If Mr. Lennox is incapacitated by these... family distractions, the board has every legal right to invoke emergency Article 9 and transition executive control to an interim CEO."

Murmurs of agreement rippled through two of the corrupt board members who had secretly taken payouts from the Vanguard Syndicate.

"An excellent proposal, Richard," murmured Elizabeth Cole, a senior board member whose offshore accounts had just been flagged by Asher’s forensic accountants. "We must protect shareholder value above all else."

Clack.

The heavy, soundproof double doors of the boardroom swung open with deliberate, terrifying slowness.

Every head at the table snapped toward the entrance.

Asher Lennox walked into the room.

He had changed into a fresh charcoal-gray suit, but the raw, menacing energy radiating from him made every person in the room instinctively recoil. His stride was measured, predatory, and absolute. Behind him walked Marcus and four armed tactical operatives who took up positions along the perimeter walls, blocking every exit.

Asher walked to the head of the table, placed both hands flat on the polished mahogany surface, and leaned forward.

"Good evening, directors," Asher said softly. His voice carried a cold, lethal calm that chilled the room to absolute zero. "I hear you were discussing my succession plan."

Richard Vance forced a tight, brittle smile, standing up to adjust his jacket. "Asher, my boy. We were just concerned about you. With the hospital incident, the boys' safety, and your wife... well, the stock market opens in four hours. We need stability."

"Stability," Asher repeated, tasting the word as if it were poison. He slowly straightened up, his dark eyes locking onto Vance. "You know, Richard, for seven months, I blamed my wife for walking out on me. I believed she abandoned our family because of my obsession with work. I spent every night wondering what I did wrong."

Vance’s smile flickered for a fraction of a second. "Family matters are private, Asher—"

"Shut your mouth," Asher snapped, the command cracking like a whip across the room.

He reached into his breast pocket, pulled out a thick manila folder, and tossed it across the mahogany table. It slid directly until it hit Vance’s coffee cup, spilling dark liquid across the polished wood.

"That folder contains complete forensic records, wire transfer logs, and encrypted comms transcripts between your Cayman Islands shell accounts and the Vanguard Syndicate," Asher said, his voice dropping into a deadly register. "Including the forty-million-dollar transaction executed on November 6th—the day before you used my wife's life as leverage to force her into exile."

The color drained entirely from Richard Vance’s face. He stumbled backward, his hip hitting the edge of the conference chair.

"That’s... that’s a fabrication," Vance stammered, his voice rising in panic. "You can't prove—"

"I don't need to prove anything in a court of law, Richard," Asher interrupted, walking slowly around the table toward him. "This isn't a courtroom. This is my company. And you just committed high treason against my family."

Elizabeth Cole stood up, her voice shaking with righteous indignation. "Asher! You cannot threaten a board member! We demand—"

"You demand nothing," Asher cut her off without even glancing her way. He gestured to Marcus. "Marcus, detain Ms. Cole and any other director whose name appears on the syndicate payroll. Hand them over to federal custody. Their indictments for corporate espionage and kidnapping are already signed by the Attorney General."

"Right away, boss," Marcus replied sharply.

Two operatives stepped forward, grabbing Elizabeth Cole by the arms as she began to shriek curses and thrash against them.

Richard Vance, realizing he was entirely cornered, made a desperate lunge for the door.

He didn't make it three steps.

Asher moved with the speed of a striking cobra, grabbing Vance by the back of his expensive silk collar and slamming him face-first onto the mahogany conference table with enough force to splinter the wood.

Vance groaned, blood trickling from his nose onto the corporate seal embedded in the table.

Asher leaned down, his mouth inches from Vance’s ear.

"You thought you could break my family, steal my empire, and hide behind corporate bylaws," Asher whispered, his voice vibrating with a terrifying intensity. "You forgot one fundamental truth, Richard."

May you like

Vance whimpered, unable to speak.

"I built this world from the ground up," Asher finished. "And anyone who touches my blood... burns with it."
