Chapter 3 - The Ambush at Dawn

At precisely 2:15 AM, the quiet suburban street erupted into flashing red and blue strobe lights. Three blacked-out SUV cruisers from the State Police Special Enforcement Unit pulled up onto the manicured lawn, cutting their sirens just before impact.
Downstairs, the front door was shattered inward by a heavy battering ram.
“State Police! Executing a high-risk warrant! Down on the ground! Show me your hands!”
The sharp shouts of tactical officers echoed through the house, followed by the clatter of breaking glassware and Chloe’s high-pitched scream.
Elena guided her mother slowly down the hallway to the top of the grand mahogany staircase. Below, the scene unfolded with ruthless speed. Julian, wearing a silk robe and holding a glass of scotch, had been forced face-down onto the Italian marble foyer. An officer had a heavy knee pinned into his shoulder blade, pulling his arms behind his back to snap steel handcuffs over his wrists.
“What is the meaning of this?!” Julian roared, his face pressed against the cold stone. “Do you know who I am?! I am a senior vice president at Apex Financial! Call my legal team immediately!”
Chloe was pinned against the living room couch by two female officers, her face flushed red, her expensive diamond earrings catching the violent strobe of the police lights through the front windows. “Get your hands off me! You’re trespassing! This is a private residence! Julian, do something!”
Captain Miller stepped into the foyer, holding a signed physical copy of the judge’s emergency order. He looked up the staircase, catching Elena’s eye, and gave a crisp nod.
Elena walked down the stairs step by step, holding her mother’s hand firmly in her own. Her stride was steady, her expression completely devoid of mercy.
“Elena!” Julian spat, twisting his head upward from the floor. “What did you do?! What lies did you tell them?! You crazy bitch!”
Elena stopped at the bottom step, looking down at her brother with ice in her eyes.
“You told Mom that I was too busy with my career to care about her,” Elena said, her voice echoing off the tall ceilings. “You told her nobody would believe an old woman. But you forgot one detail, Julian. I don't just prosecute criminals for a living. I hunt predators who prey on the vulnerable.”

Captain Miller stepped forward, pulling Julian up by his lapels and forcing him toward the open front door. “Julian Vance, you are under arrest for first-degree felony elder abuse, torture, false imprisonment, and grand theft. You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law.”
Chloe screamed as she was hauled toward a separate cruiser, her eyes wild with terror as she realized the iron veil of their control had collapsed in a single night.
