Chapter 3 - The Boardroom Coup

The annual shareholder meeting was a suffocating affair, thick with the scent of expensive cologne and anxiety. Graham entered the boardroom with a veneer of practiced confidence. He believed his trap was set: Audrey, after twenty months of isolation in the West, would appear frazzled and out of touch. He and Lorraine had prepared a motion to declare her unfit, citing her "prolonged absence" as evidence of a mental breakdown.

When it was Audrey’s turn to present, she didn’t look tired. She stepped to the podium, her suit perfectly tailored, her face a mask of serene neutrality. Instead of the expected report on the Western expansion, she signaled for the lights to dim.

"Gentlemen and ladies of the board," Audrey began, her voice steady and echoing through the hushed room. "I have spent twenty months building the future of Keller Northstar. However, it seems that during my absence, some members of this leadership team have been busy excavating the foundation of our company to line their own pockets."

She clicked a remote, and the massive screen behind her flooded with data—not Graham’s falsified reports, but a real-time audit of the last eighteen months. The room erupted into gasps as she revealed the shell companies, the embezzlement of employee pension funds to pay for the mistress’s luxury lifestyle, and the fraudulent signatures on company assets.

Graham turned ash-gray, his hands trembling against the mahogany table. Lorraine stood up, her face twisted in a mask of impotent rage. "This is slander! It’s all fabricated!" she shrieked.

"It is verified evidence," Audrey countered, her voice ice-cold. She pulled a document from her folder. "This is a paternity test performed at a private clinic, and here is a formal summons regarding grand larceny and tax evasion. Furthermore, I have officially transferred the intellectual property and the deeds of the Western regional offices—the company’s most valuable assets—into a holding company where I am the sole shareholder. As of ten minutes ago, Keller Northstar is an empty shell without my consent."

The silence in the room was absolute. Graham looked at his wife, seeing for the first time that the "simple housewife" he had dismissed was, in fact, a predator he had foolishly invited into his den. He was finished.
