Chapter 8 - The Three Little Promises

Six months later.
Early June in the Hudson Valley was a paradise of green hills, blooming white jasmine, and endless blue skies.
The gardens of the Berkshire Estate had been transformed into an open-air sanctuary of white orchids, soft ivory ribbons, and clear glass lanterns hanging from the ancient oak trees.
Fifty guests were seated on the lawn—not political barons or mob bosses, but real friends, staff members, local teachers, Eleanor, Dante, and people who had shown true kindness to Maya and the children over the years.
At the front of the altar, framed by a arch of white roses overlooking the sparkling blue lake, stood Sebastian Vale.
He wore a dark navy bespoke suit, looking tall, powerful, and impeccably handsome. But there was no coldness in his face—only an radiant, nervous joy as he adjusted his cuffs, his eyes fixed on the house.
Beside him stood Dante Vance, serving as his best man, smiling broadly.
The soft string quartet began to play a soaring, beautiful rendition of Canon in D.
Walking down the petal-covered aisle came the bridal party.
First came four-year-old Noah, wearing a mini navy tuxedo that matched his father’s perfectly, holding a small velvet pillow carrying the wedding bands. He walked with serious, proud steps, his gray eyes shining with importance.
Behind him came Ivy and Owen, holding hands, wearing matching white outfits, tossing pink rose petals from small silver baskets with wild, joyous enthusiasm that made the guests laugh warmly.
And then came Maya.
A collective breath was drawn across the lawn.
She was an absolute vision of breathtaking elegance. Her dress was a masterpiece of flowing white lace and silk, clinging gently to her form before trailing into a soft train across the green grass. Her dark hair was pinned back with small pearl combs, and her face was illuminated by a love so radiant it seemed to light up the entire valley.
When she reached the altar, Sebastian took her hand. His fingers were shaking slightly as he lifted her veil, staring at her with an intensity that made her heart soar.
“You take my breath away,” Sebastian whispered softly.
“You’re not so bad yourself, Mr. Vale,” Maya teased gently, a brilliant smile lighting up her face.
The minister stepped forward, his voice warm and resonant over the quiet breeze.
“We are gathered here today,” the minister began, “not merely to join two lives, but to celebrate a love that endured the darkest storms, a love that broke through lies and fear to build a home of truth, light, and restoration.”
When the time came for the vows, Sebastian took Maya’s hands in his, looking directly into her brown eyes.
“Maya,” Sebastian said, his deep voice carrying clearly across the quiet lawn. “Four years ago, I thought love was a weakness that had to be hidden. I was wrong. Love was the only thing that kept me alive in the dark. You gave me three beautiful miracles, and you taught me what it truly means to be a man. I promise to cherish you, to honor you, to stand as your shield and your partner for all the days of my life. My heart, my home, and my soul belong to you forever.”
He slid the diamond and sapphire ring onto her finger.
Maya wiped a tear from her cheek, her hands tightening around his.
“Sebastian,” Maya said softly, her voice filled with emotion. “I loved you when we had nothing in that small city apartment, and I love you today. You fought through hell to bring us back together, and you showed me that true strength isn't power—it’s protection, devotion, and family. I promise to walk beside you through every dawn and every shadow, to love you without fear, and to build a life filled with joy with you and our children forever.”
She slid a matching platinum band onto his finger.
The minister smiled warmly. “By the power vested in me, I now pronounce you husband and wife. Sebastian, you may kiss your bride.”
Sebastian didn't wait. He pulled Maya into his arms, dipping her slightly, and pressed his lips against hers in a passionate, breathtaking kiss that brought the entire audience to their feet in thunderous, joyous applause.
When they parted, Sebastian didn't just turn to walk down the aisle.
He lowered himself to one knee on the petal-covered grass. Maya knelt beside him.
The three children—Noah, Ivy, and Owen—scampered over to them, surrounding their parents on the rug.
Sebastian pulled three small gold medallions from his pocket, each engraved with a family crest featuring three silver stars surrounding a heart.
He gently hung one medallion around Noah’s neck, one around Ivy’s, and one around Owen’s.
“I have three little promises for you,” Sebastian said, his voice thick with deep love as he looked into the bright, happy faces of his children.
“First, to Noah: I promise to always listen to you, to help you build your dreams, and to stand by you as you grow into a strong, good man.”
Noah smiled proudly, clutching his medallion.
“Second, to Ivy: I promise to protect your laughter, to listen to your stories, and to make sure you always feel like a princess in this home.”
Ivy threw her arms around his neck, kissing his cheek loudly.
“And third, to Owen: I promise to keep plenty of blue cups, to play trains whenever you want, and to never let anything scare you again.”
Owen giggled, hugging Sebastian’s arm tightly.

Sebastian and Maya stood up together, holding their children in their arms, surrounded by the warmth of the summer sun, the fragrance of white roses, and the sound of pure, unbroken laughter.
The shadows of the past were gone forever. The billionaire who had once ruled through fear was now a man anchored by love. And the family that had been born in the dark was finally standing together in the bright, beautiful light of home.
