Chapter 5 - The Snake in the Grass

While Cassius was at the hospital, news of his morning appearance at Oakridge Elementary spread through the Las Vegas underground like wildfire.
In an underground vault beneath the Northside Casino, Victor Vance sat at a mahogany table surrounded by heavily armed lieutenants. Vance was the leader of the Vance Cartel, Cassius's bitterest rival for over a decade.
"Are you telling me Cassius Wren spent his morning sitting in a third-grade classroom?" Vance sneered, swirling a glass of scotch.
"Yes, boss," a scout reported, sliding photographs across the table. "He went for a kid named Eli. The kid's sister is a night-shift cocktail waitress at the Wren Casino. They have no family, no money, no protection."
Vance picked up a photo of Eli walking out of the school next to Cassius. A slow, sinister smile spread across his face.
"For twenty-six years, Cassius has been a ghost," Vance chuckled, his eyes gleaming with malice. "No wife, no kids, no loved ones to squeeze. We couldn't touch him because he had nothing to lose."

Vance slammed his glass onto the table, shattering the base.
"Now he gives us a target," Vance snarled. "Find out where that kid lives. When we take the boy, Cassius will hand over his entire casino operation on a silver platter just to keep him alive."
