Chapter 6 - The Trap

Three days later, Maya was discharged from the hospital and moved into the quiet, gated community in Summerlin. For the first time in his life, Eli had his own bedroom, a backyard with a swing, and a refrigerator full of food.
Every afternoon at four o'clock, a black sedan driven by Marcus would pull up to take Eli home from school.
On Friday afternoon, as Eli stepped out of the school gates, he noticed the street was strangely quiet. The usual crowd of parents and buses was gone, diverted by road closure signs at the corner.
A silver van pulled up to the curb, its side door sliding open instantly. Two men in tactical vests jumped out, grabbing Eli before he could scream.
"Get the kid!" one yelled, shoving a cloth over Eli's mouth.
Within seconds, Eli was dragged into the back of the van, his vision fading as the chemical on the cloth took effect. The van sped away, tires screeching against the pavement.
Inside the van, the lead kidnapper pulled out a satellite phone and dialed Victor Vance.

"We got him, boss. The kid's out cold. We're heading to the docklands warehouse."
"Good," Vance's voice crackled through the speaker. "Call Cassius. Tell him if he wants the boy back in one piece, he comes alone to the docks in thirty minutes. No guards. No cops."
