Chapter 5 - The Second Accusation

Richard snatched the document off the table, his eyes scanning the first paragraph. As he read, the remaining color vanished entirely from his face. He staggered backward, his knees hitting his chair, nearly collapsing.
"This... this is impossible," Richard stammered, looking up at me with sheer horror. "The acquisition... the bridge loan... Aethelgard Capital owns our primary debt? You... you orchestrated this?"
"Every single penny of it," I replied smoothly, sliding my hands into my trouser pockets. "For the last five years, your real estate empire has been built on a house of cards. I bought your bad debt, Richard. I own your commercial properties. I own your credit lines. By midnight tonight, Hayes Enterprises legally ceases to exist."
Carol stood up, her face twisted in absolute fury, forgetting all decorum. "You ungrateful, malicious animal!" she shrieked, pointing a shaking finger at me. "After we took you in! After we gave you a home!"
"You didn't give me a home, Carol," I corrected, my voice dropping an octave, carrying a chilling authority that made her step back. "You gave me a cage. And ten years ago, when your precious golden child fabricated a lie to cover up her own teenage indiscretions, you locked the door and threw away the key."
At the mention of her past lie, Allison flinched violently. A nervous panic flickered across her face.
"He's lying!" Allison screamed, tears instantly flooding her eyes as she turned to the surrounding crowd of influential guests, playing the ultimate victim card. "He's making it all up! He's unstable! He’s always been unstable! That’s why he attacked me! That’s why he tried to ruin my life back then, and that’s why he’s doing it now!"
The crowd murmured anxiously. People looked between us, confused, unsettled by the raw, toxic drama unfolding at a high-society gala.
Allison seized the momentum of her performance. She stepped around the table, putting on a masterclass of fabricated trauma. She looked at me with wild, terrified eyes, raising her voice so everyone could hear every syllable.
"You think everyone believes your lies, Zach?" she sobbed, her voice cracking with calculated perfection. "You’ve been stalking me for years! You’ve sent threatening messages! You’ve been watching my house! And now you come here with your fancy lawyers to terrorize my family all over again because you couldn't accept that you were a monster who violated your own adopted sister!"
There it was.
The second accusation.
She thought she could use the exact same playbook that had worked ten years ago. She thought that by turning herself into the weeping, fragile victim, society's conditioned instincts would rush to her defense and silence me once and for all.
She miscalculated.
Ten years ago, I was a defenseless seventeen-year-old boy with no resources, no voice, and no proof.
Tonight, I was a cyber intelligence expert who had spent a decade legally dissecting every digital footprint, medical record, and secret text message the Hayes family had ever tried to bury.
I didn't flinch. I didn't raise my voice. I simply nodded to Sarah.

Sarah opened her laptop, connected it instantly to the ballroom’s overhead projector system, and with a single tap of her finger, illuminated the massive thirty-foot projection screen hanging directly above the head table.
The entire ballroom gasped.
