Chapter 3 - The Trojan Horse

The plan was cruel, surgical, and effective. We wouldn't go to the police—not yet. The police could be bought, and Carmen Robles owned half the precinct. Instead, we would play the role of the humiliated, grieving parents.

Alexander spent the next forty-eight hours weaving a web. He re-entered the social circles Carmen frequented, playing the part of the grieving ex-husband who was "distraught" by his daughter's "mental breakdown" on her wedding night. He fed Carmen’s ego, making her believe that Sofia was so broken, so traumatized, that she was ready to sign over anything just to "keep the peace."

Carmen, ever the vulture, took the bait. She reached out, sending Javier to "check" on Sofia. When Javier arrived at our door, acting the part of the concerned, repentant husband, Alexander didn't lash out. He invited him in.

He gave Javier a pen and a document. It looked like a property transfer, but in reality, it was a confession—a signed, notarized admission of the abuse, the extortion, and the conspiracy to commit grand larceny.

“Sofia is ready to sign,” Alexander told Javier, his voice as smooth as silk. “But she wants you to sign this first. A promise of protection. A waiver of liability.”

Javier, blinded by the promise of the $1.8 million condo, didn't even read the pages. He signed. He signed his life away, thinking he was securing his fortune.
