Chapter 9 - The Dawn of Grayhaven

Six months later, the spring sun washed over the sprawling emerald lawns of Grayhaven House, turning the dew-kissed grass into a sea of glittering diamonds.

The dark, menacing shadow that had once hung over the estate like a shroud was gone, replaced by the sound of laughter echoing through the grand marble halls.

In the sunlit courtyard, Lila—now wearing a brand-new yellow dress with matching shiny yellow boots—was chasing a butterfly across the garden grass, her pink hearing device adjusted to its optimal frequency so she could hear every bird chirping in the oak trees above.

Standing on the shaded stone veranda, I leaned back against a solid, comforting wall of muscle. Damian’s arms wrapped securely around my waist, his chin resting comfortably on my shoulder as we watched our daughter play.

“She’s getting faster,” Damian murmured, a soft, genuine smile playing on his lips. “At this rate, she’ll be outrunning my security detail by next summer.”

“She takes after her father,” I teased lightly, turning in his arms to wrap my hands around his neck.

Damian chuckled, a deep, resonant sound that vibrated right through my soul. He leaned down and pressed a tender, lingering kiss to my lips, sealing a bond that no syndicate, no poison, and no enemy could ever break.

Grayhaven House was no longer a forbidden fortress of fear and death.

It was a home.

And as Damian pulled me closer against his chest, feeling the strong, steady, unwavering beat of his heart thumping in perfect rhythm against my own, I knew that our storm had finally passed, leaving behind a sunrise that would last a lifetime.
