Chapter 4 - The Siege of Silence

The mountain hut was a sanctuary made of ancient stone and desperation. Inside, the air was thick with the scent of copal incense and dried sage, which immediately began to burn the nostrils of anyone not accustomed to the ritual. The Curandera, whose name was Abuela Tita, didn't waste a second. She directed Alejandro to place Emiliano on a circular altar carved into the center of the floor.
"If you value your son’s soul, do not move from the perimeter of this circle," Tita commanded. "If you break the seal, the creature will claim you both."
Outside, the silence of the mountains was shattered by the harsh, mechanical clicking of weapons being readied. Martha’s voice drifted up through the darkness, amplified by a megaphone. "Alejandro! Give the boy to us. The entity is a master, not a servant. It will bring you power beyond your wildest dreams—power that will make your current fortune look like a beggar's crumbs. Don't throw your life away for a sick child!"
Alejandro stood at the edge of the circle, his gun drawn, staring at the door. He was a man of steel and concrete, but here, in the shadow of the mountain, he realized he had been fighting a war of money while the world played a war of spirits.
"I don't want your power!" Alejandro roared back, his voice echoing off the valley walls.
The assault began. A heavy, thunderous explosion rocked the hut as a grenade was lobbed toward the structure. The blast shattered the wooden door, sending splinters flying like shrapnel. Men in tactical gear swarmed the opening, their infrared lights sweeping the room.
Tita began to chant, her voice low and resonant, vibrating against the stone walls. As the mercenaries entered the circle of the hut, they faltered. Their guns jammed, the metal glowing white-hot in their hands as if reacting to an invisible current.
"The circle is not just for protection," Elena shouted, ducking behind an altar as bullets pinged harmlessly against an invisible barrier surrounding the center. "It is a vacuum! It consumes the negative intent of those who enter!"

Alejandro didn't hesitate. He realized his role wasn't to fight the men, but to protect the ritual. He threw himself into the fray, using his body to shove the invaders back toward the threshold. He fought with the raw, brutal efficiency of a man who had everything to lose. When Martha finally stepped into the room, her face twisted in a mask of occult fury, she held an obsidian blade intended for the sacrifice.
She lunged toward the altar, but Alejandro tackled her, the two of them crashing against the stone floor. As they struggled, the room began to pulse with a sickly, rhythmic light. Emiliano screamed, his stomach stretching as if something was physically pushing outward from his skin. The "monster" was trying to manifest in the middle of the chaos.
