Chapter 5 - The Fall of Crestview Clinic

The emergency press conference called by the board of directors of Crestview Clinic was supposed to be a celebration of winter philanthropic initiatives. Instead, it turned into the biggest corporate scandal in Minnesota history.
Flashbulbs strobed continuously across the auditorium stage. Reporters from national news networks crowded the aisles, shouting questions over one another.
At the center of the podium stood Alistair Carpenter. He had removed his luxury watch and his silk tie. His expression was grim, resolute, and entirely stripped of the corporate polish he had worn for fifteen years.
Sitting in the front row, flanked by federal marshals and legal counsel, was Nellie Fields. She wore a clean, dignified black coat, supported by a customized carbon-fiber crutch provided by a team of independent physicians who had stepped in to help her.
Behind the stage curtains stood Katie Carpenter and Olivia Gilbert, staring out at the disaster with expressions of absolute horror.
“Ladies and gentlemen of the press,” Alistair began into the microphone, his voice echoing clearly through the hall. “For over three decades, the Crestview Clinic Foundation has presented itself as a beacon of community healing and compassion. But beneath the polished marble floors and the multi-million-dollar endowments lies a history of corporate corruption, institutional intimidation, and criminal cover-ups.”
An uproar erupted in the press corps. Microphones surged forward.
“Today,” Alistair continued, raising his hand to steady the room, “I am officially stepping down as medical director of the clinic. Furthermore, I have submitted a comprehensive dossier to the United States Attorney’s Office detailing systemic embezzlement, bribery of municipal zoning inspectors, and the intentional suppression of wrongful death liability claims.”
From the front row, a reporter shouted, “Dr. Carpenter! Is it true that the clinic was involved in the death of a child?”
“Yes,” Alistair said, his voice cracking slightly before firming up. “Ten months ago, my ten-year-old son, Sawyer Fields, was killed at a municipal drainage site funded by our foundation due to criminal negligence in construction safety. That death was covered up by the clinic administration, led by my mother, Katie Carpenter, who used forged indemnity waivers and corporate shell companies to silence the investigation.”
Gasps echoed through the auditorium. Camera lenses zoomed in aggressively on the front row where Katie Carpenter sat, frozen in disbelief as federal investigators approached her row with a federal arrest warrant.

“And finally,” Alistair added, looking directly into the camera lens broadcasting live across the nation, “to my ex-wife, Nellie Fields—a woman who was systematically robbed of her family, her home, and her physical health by the very institution I helped manage—there are no apologies large enough to undo what was done. But today, the truth is out. And the accountability begins now.”
As federal agents placed handcuffs on Katie Carpenter and led her out through the side exit of the auditorium, the flashbulbs didn't stop. They illuminated the historic collapse of an empire built on lies, paving the way for a reckoning long overdue.
