Chapter 7 - A Spark in the Storm

Six months later, autumn had settled over the coastal city, painted in rich shades of amber and crimson. The opening of the Lily Holloway Clinic was only a week away, and the press was buzzing with admiration for the billionaire philanthropist and his brilliant fiancé.
Yet, peace never comes without testing.
Late one evening, while Grant was attending an international maritime board meeting downtown, a fierce, unexpected electrical storm swept across the coast. Torrential rain slammed against the glass windows of the Holloway mansion, knocking out the primary power grid.
Inside the house, Lily began to panic. The dark house reminded her terrifyingly of the night her mother had passed away in the hospital during a storm. She huddled in her bedroom corner, hyperventilating, holding her right ear with both hands as phantom psychological pain began to flare from sheer terror.
Claire, who was staying at the house, immediately raced up the dark hallway with a flashlight.
"Lily!" Claire called out softly, entering the room.
She found the little girl curled into a tight ball under her blankets, weeping frantically. "It hurts again, Claire! It hurts!"
Claire knew instantly that there was no physical insect this time. This was a psychological trauma response—a deep panic attack triggered by darkness, memory, and fear.
Claire didn't try to reason with her or force her to calm down. Instead, she sat right down on the floor beside Lily, pulling the girl into her arms and holding her tight against her chest.
"Listen to my heart, Lily," Claire said calmly, breathing in slow, rhythmic pulses. "Put your head right here."
Lily pressed her cheek against Claire’s chest. The rhythmic, steady beat of Claire’s heart cut through the chaotic roar of the thunder outside.
"Do you remember what we do when we're scared of the dark?" Claire whispered gently, stroking Lily's hair. "We don't fight it. We find our own light."
Claire clicked on a small, night-sky projector she had brought with her weeks ago, powered by a backup battery. Instantly, the bedroom ceiling transformed into a swirling, magical galaxy of soft blue stars and glowing green nebulae.
Lily slowly opened her eyes, gazing up at the ceiling in awe. Her rapid breathing began to slow.
At that moment, the bedroom door burst open. Grant rushed in, soaked from the rain, having abandoned his multi-billion-dollar meeting the moment he heard the power grid was down. He was pale with worry, dreading what he might find.
He stopped dead in his tracks at the doorway.

In the soft, celestial light of the projector, Claire was cradling Lily, singing a quiet, soothing lullaby. Lily’s eyes were heavy, her small hand resting peacefully over Claire’s heart, completely safe and calm.
Grant leaned against the doorframe, his chest heaving, tears pricking the corners of his eyes. In that silent, beautiful moment, he realized that Claire wasn't just a partner or a brilliant doctor. She was the anchor his family had been missing for three painful years. She was home.
