Chapter 4 - The Boardroom of Reality

By the next morning, the financial markets were humming with the news of the Montgomery conglomerate’s instability. Vanessa’s office was a theater of chaos. She had been ousted as CEO by an emergency board vote initiated by a mysterious investor—a shadow entity that, had she bothered to look deeper, was a shell company managed by my private foundation.

I arrived at their corporate headquarters at 9:00 AM. I wasn't wearing the modest, unbranded clothes I usually favored; I wore a tailored charcoal suit that moved like armor. I walked past the receptionist who had once asked me if I was the cleaning staff. Her face turned a deep, shocked crimson when she recognized me and saw me flanked by my legal and security team.

The boardroom was filled with the remaining executives, all of whom looked like they had been caught in the path of a landslide. When I entered, the nervous chatter died instantly. Vanessa sat at the head of the table, her makeup streaked, her hair in disarray. She looked at me, and for the first time, I saw the truth: she was nothing without the company. She was a hollow shell, an echo of power with no substance.

"Why?" Vanessa asked, her voice a fragile, trembling whisper. "We were family. We were Montgomerys. You're destroying our legacy."

"I am a Montgomery, too, Vanessa," I said, taking my place at the head of the table—the seat she had fought so hard to keep. "But I built my own table. I didn't inherit it, and I certainly didn't build it by tearing others down. Your legacy was built on exclusion and vanity. I'm building mine on innovation and integrity."

I opened my laptop, pulling up the list of divestments I had prepared. I wasn't just liquidating the company; I was restructuring the entire ethos of the firm. I was removing the parasites, the sycophants, and the people who viewed their employees as disposable assets. The boardroom was mine, and I began the process of dismantling the Montgomery legacy, stone by cold, uncomfortable stone, while they watched, powerless to stop the architect of their own demise.
