Chapter 6 - The Dawn of a New Life

Six months later, the sun was streaming through the windows of a new office space—an actual studio, not a corner of my bedroom. My mother sat across from me, sipping tea. She looked different; she had left Richard, sold the old house, and was finally finding her own independence in a small apartment nearby.
The pain in my side had long since faded into a thin, white line—a scar that served as a map of where I had been. I wasn't the girl who hit the floor that day; I was the woman who had gotten back up, rebuilt her world, and refused to let anyone dictate her worth ever again.
We laughed at something trivial, the sound echoing in the high ceilings of my new space. I walked to the window and looked out at the city. The past was a heavy cloak I had finally shed. I had survived the surgery, I had survived the violence, and most importantly, I had survived the doubt. I was home, and for the first time, the house belonged entirely to me.
