Chapter 8 - The Broadcast of Truth

The armored SUVs smashed through the cabin's perimeter fence, deploying twelve heavily armed mercenaries clad in black tactical gear.

"Thermal signatures confirmed inside!" the mercenary lead shouted over his comms. "Breach on my mark! Three, two—"

BOOM!

A blinding flash of magnesium light and deafening white noise exploded across the front porch as one of Samuel’s vintage perimeter flash-tripwires detonated. Mercenaries screamed, stumbling backward, temporarily blinded by the intense glare.

From the second-floor window, I fired two red tactical flares into the wet grass, creating a thick, billowing screen of crimson smoke that engulfed the entire front yard, disorienting their sightlines.

"Get inside!" Alexander barked over the tactical radio, standing near his SUV at the rear of the convoy. "Kill the woman! Bring the boy to me!"

While the mercenaries fired blind bursts into the front door of the cabin, I was already up on the roof, securing the heavy dish of Samuel’s satellite transceiver to the chimney mount.

Below me, inside the reinforced cellar, Matthew and Lucy were sitting in front of a high-definition webcam hooked directly to the encrypted satellite link.

"Is the feed live, Mommy?" Lucy’s voice echoed through my earpiece communicator.

"Feed is locked!" I shouted down through the vent while dodging a stray bullet that clipped the roof tile near my foot. "Broadcasting on all open federal streams, international news networks, and the Vale Global Shareholder Emergency Portal!"

Inside the cellar, the webcam light turned glowing green.

In front of millions of live viewers across the globe—including news anchors, corporate board members, and federal prosecutors whose feeds were suddenly overridden by the high-priority emergency signal—eight-year-old Matthew Vale sat in the stark, clear light.

He didn't hide his face. He didn't look afraid.

Beside him, Lucy held up a sign printed with bold black letters: THE SILENT BOY IS SPEAKING.

Matthew raised his hands. For fifteen minutes, live on global television, he signed the entire step-by-step account of his mother's murder, pointing to the scrolling evidence, financial ledger files, and bank routing numbers that uploaded automatically alongside his stream.

And then, as the stream reached its climax, Matthew did something that shocked the world—and shattered Alexander Vale’s reality forever.

Matthew reached up, took a deep breath, and pressed his small hands against his throat, forcing his vocal cords through the lingering numbness of years of quiet poison.

He opened his mouth.

His voice was hoarse, cracking, and rough like gravel, but it was clear as a silver bell.

"My name... is Matthew Vale," the boy declared aloud into the camera, tears streaming down his face. "My father... killed my mother. And he... is standing outside."
