Chapter 7 - A Promise Under the Sun

My heart slammed against my ribs so hard I couldn't breathe.

Sebastian looked up at me from his knee, his eyes swimming with tears of pure, unadulterated love. Inside the velvet box sat a breathtaking vintage ring—a flawless canary yellow diamond surrounded by white platinum, glowing like a piece of captured sunlight.

"Mary," Sebastian spoke, his voice trembling slightly with profound emotion, echoing softly through the stage microphones. "Two months ago, I was a dead man hiding in a dark room, waiting for my life to end. You walked into my home, refused to let me surrender, and nursed me back to health with your raw courage."

He reached out, his hand wrapping around mine, holding Ethan’s tiny fingers within his grip.

"You brought sunlight into my graveyard," Sebastian whispered, looking into my tear-filled eyes. "You gave me a reason to stand up, a reason to fight, and a reason to love. I don't want a life without you and Ethan. Will you do me the honor of becoming my wife?"

Tears streamed down my cheeks, hot and blissful. I didn't care about the cameras. I didn't care about the reporters shouting or the live news broadcast.

I dropped to my knees right in front of him on the wooden stage, throwing my arms around his neck.

"Yes!" I sobbed happily, pressing my lips against his in a sweet, passionate kiss that sent the entire ballroom into a thunderous, standing ovation. "Yes, Sebastian! A thousand times yes!"

Ethan let out a happy squeal, throwing his arms around both of us, his yellow blanket falling across our laps like a warm golden ribbon tying our lives together forever.
