Chapter 10 - A New Chapter Beneath the Manhattan Sky

As the year came to a close, I stood out on the private balcony of my Manhattan penthouse, breathing in the crisp, cold winter air.
Far below, the city lights twinkled like a million scattered diamonds across the grid of Manhattan. The traffic hummed a steady, comforting rhythm.
My phone buzzed in my pocket. I pulled it out and glanced at the screen—a message from the federal prosecutor's office confirming that Vanessa's trial had concluded with a guilty verdict on all counts, resulting in a twelve-year federal prison sentence without parole. Christian Vance had received fifteen.
I locked the phone, slipped it back into my coat pocket, and didn't feel a single flicker of anger or regret.
Inside the warm penthouse, I could hear Maria laughing with guests, and Lily’s joyful squeals as she unwrapped another Christmas present by the glowing tree.
I had lost fourteen million dollars to a con artist. I had suffered public humiliation on what was supposed to be the happiest day of my life.
And yet, I had never felt richer.

I turned away from the city skyline, walked back inside through the glass doors, and closed them gently against the winter wind, ready for whatever tomorrow would bring.
