Chapter 7 - The Courtroom Judgment
Two months later.
The Fulton County Family Courtroom was packed to the gills. Media cameras crowded the courthouse steps, all waiting to catch a glimpse of the fallout from the infamous suburban scandal.
Judge Elizabeth Hawthorne sat behind the high mahogany bench, her expression stern, her gray hair pulled back into a severe, elegant knot.
At the plaintiff’s table sat Claire. She looked breathtaking. She wore a tailored ivory blazer, her dark hair cascading over her shoulders, holding a sleeping newborn baby boy wrapped in a soft blue cashmere blanket in her arms. Little Leo Vance-Harris—named after his grandfather and his uncle—slept peacefully, completely unaware of the storm his mother had survived.
At the defense table sat Daniel. He looked broken. His hair was thinning, his posture slouched, wearing an ill-fitting off-the-rack suit he could barely afford. His lawyer, a tired public defender, looked like he wanted to be anywhere else on earth.
"This court has reviewed the complete evidentiary record," Judge Hawthorne announced, her voice echoing through the silent, solemn courtroom. "Including forensic financial audits, medical trauma reports, certified property deeds, and verified audio-visual logs."
She looked directly down at Daniel.
"Mr. Harris, your actions demonstrate a shocking, sociopathic disregard for human life, marital vows, and basic parental duty. You subjected your heavily pregnant wife to extreme environmental distress, emotional abuse, and deliberate endangerment for the sake of petty vanity."
Daniel swallowed hard, staring at the polished wood of the defense table.
"Consequently," Judge Hawthorne continued, picking up her gavel, "this court grants the plaintiff’s petition for an immediate, uncontested divorce on grounds of extreme cruelty and abandonment. Full legal and physical custody of the minor child is awarded exclusively to Claire Harris, with zero visitation rights granted to the respondent until the child reaches eighteen years of age, and then only by petition of the child."
She looked at the financial settlement documents.
"Furthermore, all remaining assets, real estate holdings, and corporate accounts previously held jointly are awarded entirely to Mrs. Harris as restitution and punitive damages. Mr. Harris is ordered to pay monthly alimony and child support, garnished directly from any future wages."
Judge Hawthorne raised the gavel.
Bang.
"Case closed. God save this court."

Claire stood up slowly, cradling baby Leo against her chest. She didn't look at Daniel as she walked past the defense table. She didn't need to. He was already a ghost.
