Chapter 3 - THE DEMOLITION OF AN EMPIRE

By 5:30 a.m., the living room of Elena’s apartment looked like a war room.
Dr. Aris Thorne had arrived twenty minutes earlier, carrying a locked medical case. He had meticulously photographed, measured, and documented every single injury on Sofia’s body, securing forensic swabs of fabric fibers and skin cells left behind during the assault in the hotel suite. The official medical affidavit was already sealed in a tamper-proof envelope, bearing the signature of one of the most respected forensic physicians in the Southwest.
Meanwhile, Alexander sat at the small kitchen table with his encrypted tablet glowing in the dim light. Surrounding him were digital spreadsheets, property deeds, tax liens, and corporate registries.
Marcus, his chief of intelligence and security, had delivered on his promise. The dossier on the Robles family was breathtaking in its scope of corruption.
“Look at this,” Alexander muttered, sliding the tablet across the counter toward Elena.
Elena leaned over, her eyes scanning the financial breakdown. “What am I looking at?”
“Carmen Robles doesn’t own her lavish estate in Preston Hollow,” Alexander explained, his voice smooth and steady, carrying the chilling precision of a master predator. “She took out massive, high-interest bridge loans using forged asset valuations. Her husband’s construction company went bankrupt three years ago, and she’s been keeping up appearances by laundering money through a network of boutique art galleries and charity fronts managed by her closest friends—the very same women who helped hold our daughter down in that hotel room.”
“And Javier?” Elena asked, her hands gripping the edge of the counter.
“Javier’s law partnership is a sham,” Alexander replied, tapping another file. “He’s currently under federal investigation by the SEC for insider trading and real estate title fraud. He targeted Sofia not just because he liked her, but because her $1.8 million Uptown condo was completely unencumbered—free and clear of any mortgages or liens. Signing it over to him was supposed to be his get-out-of-jail-free card to bail his firm out of a massive embezzlement hole.”
Elena felt a cold shiver run down her spine. The elegance, the charm, the expensive perfume, the tailored suits—it was all a hollow facade built on sand.
“They thought they could steal our daughter’s future to save themselves,” Elena whispered, her voice trembling with righteous fury.
“They didn’t just try to steal her future,” Alexander said, standing up slowly and buttoning his suit jacket. “They tried to break her spirit. And in this state, an assault committed during the commission of financial extortion isn’t just a simple battery charge. It’s a first-class ticket to a federal penitentiary with zero possibility of bail.”
He walked over to the sofa where Sofia had finally drifted into an exhausted, medicated sleep under the watchful eye of Dr. Thorne. Alexander stood over her for a long moment, brushing a stray curl from her cheek, before turning back to Elena.
“I’m going to the luxury resort suite where this happened,” Alexander said quietly.
Elena’s eyes widened. “Alexander, no. Javier and Carmen are probably still there celebrating or sleeping off their champagne. If you go there alone—!”
“I am not going alone,” Alexander interrupted, pulling a heavy set of brass-knuckle keys from his pocket and sliding them into his trousers. “I’m taking four armed security specialists, a Dallas County sheriff’s lieutenant who owes me a very large favor, and a team of forensic auditors. We are going to collect every shred of physical evidence left behind in that room before the hotel cleaning staff can sanitize it.”

“And what about Carmen?” Elena asked.
“Carmen wanted a high-society wedding,” Alexander said, a dark, merciless gleam in his gray eyes. “She’s going to get a high-society reckoning. Pack a bag for Sofia and yourself. You’re coming with me to my penthouse downtown. Nobody stays in this apartment another minute.”
