Chapter 7 - A New Crisis

The respite was short-lived. A letter arrived, bearing the cold, official stamp of a law firm. Tuan’s father, who had passed away years ago, had left behind a complex tangle of investments that were now being audited. The family’s financial stability, long assumed to be rock solid, was under threat.

The bank threatened to foreclose on the villa—the very symbol of their family's standing.

"We lose the house, we lose everything," Tuan said, his voice trembling as he looked at the foreclosure notice. "The medical bills, the treatment—everything was dependent on the equity we have here."

The drama hit a new peak. The extended family, hearing rumors of the financial trouble, began to circle like vultures, offering "help" that was clearly designed to strip the family of its remaining assets. They whispered that the "sick girl" was a curse, a sign of bad luck that had brought financial ruin upon them.

Mrs. Lan stood in the center of the living room, surrounded by the shadows of their history. She looked at Tuan, who was paralyzed by the weight of the potential loss, and then at Mai, who, despite her illness, looked ready to face the world.

"Let them come," Mrs. Lan said, her eyes flashing with a new, steel-like resolve. "They want the house? They can have the bricks and mortar. But they will not have this family. We will fight this, together. We will find a way."

The crisis had stripped them of their material comfort, but it had finally welded them together into a singular, unbreakable unit. They were no longer a family of status; they were a family of survival.
