The fight against the debt was grueling, but a miracle occurred on the medical front. The experimental treatment, which had caused so much agony for Mai, finally triggered the breakthrough the doctors had been hoping for. Her inflammatory markers dropped, and the violet bruises on her ribs began to fade.
It was a slow, grueling climb back to health, but the energy in the house shifted from one of hospital-grade anxiety to one of cautious hope. Tuan, seeing the transformation in both his mother and his wife, felt the weight of his own burden lift. He began to see his life not as a series of obligations, but as a path to be walked alongside the two people he loved most.
"You’re going to be okay," Tuan whispered to Mai one morning as she sat on the terrace, breathing in the fresh air without the aid of her inhaler.
