Chapter 3 - The Digital Paper Trail

The hospital was a blur of fluorescent lights, the sharp smell of antiseptic, and the hushed, urgent tones of trauma nurses. Clara was stabilized, her breathing finally becoming rhythmic, but she couldn't speak—not yet. She just held my hand, her fingers gripping mine with a desperate, crushing strength, as if she were afraid that if she let go, the mansion walls would close back in on her.

While she slept, heavily sedated, I didn't return to the mansion to fight; I returned to my office, the digital fortress I had built. My team of investigators, who had been listening to the live-stream I triggered, had already intercepted Julian’s frantic attempts to wipe his hard drives. They were waiting for me, their faces grim.

I began the audit, and what I found turned my stomach. I looked at the accounts Julian had been managing, the shell corporations the Sterlings used to shuffle money. They were not just wealthy; they were a syndicate. They had been using marriage contracts as a form of predatory acquisition, siphoning intellectual property from the families they married into. They would marry for status, drain the father’s assets, and then, when the wife became a "nuisance"—or, in Clara's case, someone who accidentally discovered their dark ledger—they would discard her.

I realized then that Clara was just one of many victims. I didn't just want Julian in jail; I wanted the Sterlings to lose everything—their name, their assets, and the mansion that had become their throne of lies. I spent the next forty-eight hours with my eyes glued to the screen, tracing the money, the threats, and the history of "accidental" deaths that followed the Sterling men like a trail of breadcrumbs.
