Chapter 4 - The Boardroom Trap

The Sterlings held a gala every year to showcase their "philanthropy." It was the ultimate stage for their arrogance, a place where they toasted to their own benevolence while hiding their skeletons in the basement. I walked into the ballroom wearing a tuxedo that felt like armor, the evidence I had compiled burned onto a secure server accessible by every major news outlet in the country.

Julian was there, his face bruised from our fight, masking his aggression with a veneer of high-society poise. He looked at me, his eyes narrowing as he realized I hadn't been scared off. "You shouldn't have come, Arthur," he said, stepping into my personal space, his voice a low, threatening hum. "You’re out of your depth. My family can make you disappear before the appetizers are even served."

"I think the depth is exactly where I want to be," I replied, my voice steady, my heart hammering a rhythm of pure, unadulterated resolve.

I didn't wait for him to make the first move. I took the microphone during the toast, ostensibly to talk about the "Sterling Foundation." Instead, I bypassed their security and projected the audio I’d recorded during our fight—the sound of him gloating about "disciplining" my daughter. The room went dead. Then, I projected the schematics and the bank transfers. The guests—the senators, the CEOs, the socialites—watched in horror as the Sterling empire was unmasked not as a business, but as a predatory organism. Julian lunged for me, his face twisted in a mask of pure, unbridled fury, but the police weren't waiting outside this time. They were in the room, their hands closing around his arms, the music replaced by the harsh, metallic sound of justice finally arriving.
