Chapter 7 - The Uninvited Majority

The heavy wooden doors crashed against the interior walls with a loud, echoing thud.

The conversation inside the boardroom died instantly. Twelve men in expensive suits turned around in their leather chairs, their faces filled with shock and irritation.

At the head of the long mahogany table sat Victoria.

She looked immaculate—wearing a white designer dress, her blonde hair styled in a sleek bob, a three-carat diamond ring glistening on her finger. Sitting right beside her was Marcus Sterling, holding the legal sales contract in his hands.

Victoria’s brow furrowed in disgust as she stared at me.

"What is the meaning of this?!" Victoria snapped, rising from her chair. "Security! How did this woman get up here?!"

She stepped around the table, her high heels clicking sharply against the hardwood floor. She looked me up and down, a cruel, condescending smile spreading across her painted lips.

"Margaret?" Victoria sneered, folding her arms. "Have you completely lost your mind? This is a private corporate board meeting, not a soup kitchen. If you came here begging for a handout because your little three-thousand-dollar charity fund ran out, you're five years too late."

Several corrupt board members chuckled softly, turning back to their folders.

I didn't flinch. I took two calm steps forward, taking off my sunglasses and looking Victoria dead in the eye.

"Three thousand dollars was a daily limit, Victoria," I said, my voice echoing with a calm, terrifying authority that filled the entire room. "Not a balance."

Victoria’s smile faltered for a fraction of a second. "What nonsense are you talking about? Get out of my building before I have you arrested for trespassing!"

Sarah Jenkins stepped forward, slamming her leather briefcase onto the mahogany table directly in front of Marcus Sterling.

"Mrs. Hayes isn't trespassing, Mrs. Sterling," Sarah announced loudly. "She is standing in her own building."

Marcus Sterling frowned, picking up the blue folder Sarah had tossed in front of him. "What is this? Richard’s estate was settled in probate five years ago! Margaret signed away all rights to company stock during the divorce!"

"She signed away rights to Richard's personal domestic portfolio," Sarah corrected smoothly. "She did not sign away rights to the Swiss Holding Trust established in 1984—a trust that holds sixty percent of the voting equity in Hayes Global Logistics."

Sarah pulled out a series of certified documents stamped with Swiss federal registry seals and laid them across the table.

"As of eight o'clock this morning, Mrs. Margaret Hayes has officially assumed her position as sole trustee and controlling owner of this corporation. Which means, Victoria..." Sarah turned to look at the trembling woman, "...you have no legal authority to hold this meeting, no authority to sell these assets, and no authority to sit in that chair."

The boardroom erupted into absolute chaos. Board members scrambled to their feet, whispering frantically as they looked at the Swiss documents.

Victoria's face turned completely white. Her eyes darted from Sarah to me, her composure cracking like thin ice.

"This is a lie!" Victoria screamed, her voice turning shrill. "A fake! Richard hated her! He left her with nothing! I watched him hand her that card in the courthouse hallway myself!"

"He handed me that card to protect me from you," I said coldly, stepping closer to her. "And for five years, I let you believe you had won."
