Chapter 10 - The True Celebration

The wedding took place on a crisp, golden autumn afternoon at a private botanical garden near the coast.

There were no crystal chandeliers. No white orchids chosen for their price tags. No three hundred high-society guests whispering about bank accounts.

There were forty people—real friends, dedicated doctors, fellow patient advocates, and federal officers who had helped bring justice to my family.

Chloe stood beside me as my maid of honor, wearing a simple lavender dress, her face beaming with genuine happiness. Arthur Pendelton sat in the front row, looking like a proud grandfather.

At the end of the stone aisle, standing beneath an arch of autumn oak leaves and wildflowers, stood Vance. He wore a crisp black tuxedo, his gray eyes shining with unshed tears as he watched me walk toward him.

I wore a flowing lace gown with an open back. And right there on my waist, proudly displayed against the ivory silk, sat my insulin pump, glowing softly in the sunlight.

Nobody asked me to hide it. Nobody asked me to turn sideways for the photos.

When my feet reached the altar, Vance took both of my hands in his.

The officiant smiled. "We are gathered here today to unite two hearts that were tested by fire and proven to be gold."

As we exchanged our vows, Vance looked into my eyes and said, "Elena, I promise to stand by you in every storm. I promise to protect your light, to honor your strength, and to love every single part of you—today, tomorrow, and forever."

"Vance," I replied, my voice steady and filled with love. "You saved my life in a room full of enemies. You showed me what true bravery looks like. I give you my heart, my trust, and my future, without fear."

"By the power vested in me," the officiant announced, "I now pronounce you husband and wife. You may kiss the bride!"

Vance didn't hesitate. He pulled me into his arms, dipping me low over the bed of autumn leaves, and kissed me with a passion that made the entire crowd erupt into joyous cheers and applause.

As we walked down the aisle together, hand in hand, the sun broke through the clouds, illuminating the path ahead.

I was no longer the quiet girl sitting in the corner, hiding her life to make cruel people comfortable. I was loved. I was free. And standing beside the man who had fought for me, I knew that my life was finally, truly beginning.
