Chapter 8 - A New Dawn

One year later.

The sun was setting over the Hudson River, painting the Manhattan skyline in brilliant, sweeping strokes of gold, amber, and violet.

From the wrap-around balcony of my newly renovated penthouse apartment in Tribeca, I watched the bustling city lights blink to life below. The apartment was decorated in warm earth tones, soft linens, and vibrant modern art—a home designed entirely around my own peace, comfort, and safety. There were no hidden locks on the doors. No shared bank accounts governed by fear. No footsteps echoing down the hall with a rising dread.

My phone buzzed on the patio table.

I picked it up. A text message from Liam:

“Dinner at my place tonight? Mom’s old lasagna recipe. And don't work too late, CEO.”

I smiled, typing back a quick reply:

“On my way. Save me the crispy corner piece.”

I locked the screen and set the phone down, walking to the edge of the balcony and resting my hands on the cool glass railing.

A year ago, I had been lying on a cold kitchen floor, listening to a man whisper that I would never escape. I had been dragged into an emergency room bruised, broken, and terrified, believing my voice had been permanently silenced.

I looked down at my hands—steady, strong, and unmarked.

They had built an empire from the shadows. They had dismantled a monster with ink and evidence. And they had written a brand-new story from the ashes of a nightmare.

The wind blew softly off the river, carrying the distant hum of the city. I took a deep, full breath—pain-free, unhindered, and entirely my own—and smiled into the evening light.

Justice had finally arrived. And the dawn was just beginning.
