Chapter 3: The Impossible Discovery

"Mr. Carter?"
Ryan stood immediately.
"How's Emily?"
"She's stable."
"And my daughter?"
"She's alive."
Ryan burst into tears.
The doctor smiled slightly.
"Congratulations."
Ryan laughed and cried at the same time.
Then he noticed something strange.
The doctor wasn't leaving.
He looked uncomfortable.
"Is something wrong?"
The doctor hesitated.
"Mr. Carter… while performing the surgery, we discovered something unusual."
Ryan wiped his eyes.
"What do you mean?"
The doctor handed him a file.
"According to these records, your wife underwent a procedure eight years ago."
Ryan frowned.
"What procedure?"
"One that should have made pregnancy impossible."
Ryan stared at him.
"No."
The doctor nodded.
"We checked twice."
"There must be some mistake."
"We thought so too."
Ryan's mind raced.
Eight years ago.
Eight years.
That was before they met.
Emily had once mentioned a difficult relationship and a painful period in her life.
But she never talked about details.
And he never pushed.
Until now.
"What exactly are you saying?" Ryan asked.
The doctor lowered his voice.
"I'm saying that medically speaking… your daughter shouldn't exist."
Ryan stood speechless.
Then a nurse appeared.
"Mr. Carter?"
"Your wife is awake."
He rushed into her room.
Emily looked exhausted.
But she smiled when she saw him.
"Is she okay?"
Ryan nodded.
"She's beautiful."
Emily cried softly.
"Can I see her?"
Ryan sat beside her.
But before he could answer, he looked at the file still in his hand.
Emily saw it.
And immediately, her smile disappeared.
Color drained from her face.
"No…" she whispered.
Ryan frowned.
"What is this?"
Emily began crying.
"Ryan…"
"What does this mean?"
She looked away.
"There's something I never told you."
Something in her voice made Ryan's blood run cold.
"Eight years ago…"
"I wasn't supposed to survive."
And suddenly…
Ryan realized there was an entire chapter of Emily's life he knew nothing about.
A chapter she had buried.
A chapter she hoped would never come back.
But fate had other plans.
Because three floors below…
An elderly man wearing a black coat stood inside the hospital lobby.
He held an old photograph.
And when the nurse pushed Emily's newborn daughter through the hallway nursery…
The old man's eyes filled with tears.
He whispered softly to himself.
"After all these years…"
May you like
"I finally found her."
And nobody knew who he was.
