Chapter 6 - The Gathering Storm at Santillan Holdings

By 2:00 PM that afternoon, the executive boardroom on the forty-second floor of Santillan Holdings was packed to capacity.

The emergency board meeting had been called by Veronica herself. Believing I was incapacitated by family scandal and legal exposure, she had mobilized a faction of compromised board members to initiate a hostile vote of no confidence, aiming to strip me of my CEO status and seize controlling voting shares under the fabricated trust documents.

Veronica sat at the head of the polished mahogany table, wearing an immaculate white Chanel suit, her expression one of cool, detached corporate royalty.

The door at the end of the boardroom swung open.

All heads turned.

I walked in, flanked by two armed federal marshals and my lead corporate attorney. Behind me pushed a wheelchair, guided quietly by a woman in a simple, clean dress.

My mother.

She had washed her hair. Her gray strands were neatly tied back, and she wore a warm woolen shawl over her shoulders. Though her face still bore the hollow lines of her long suffering, her eyes were bright, clear, and steady.

Veronica stood up from her chair, her professional composure fracturing for a split second before she recovered with indignant outrage.

“Alejandro, what is the meaning of this circus?” Veronica demanded, her voice ringing across the silent boardroom. “You bring an impostor into an official board meeting of Santillan Holdings? Security, remove them immediately!”

“Sit down, Veronica,” I said, my voice cutting through the room like a razor blade.

I walked to the head of the table, pressed my palms against the mahogany surface, and looked around at the stunned faces of my board members.

“For the past fifteen years,” I began, my voice steady and echoing off the glass walls, “this company has operated on the core principle that trust is our most valuable asset. But tonight—and over the past eighteen months—that trust has been systematically undermined from within.”

Veronica laughed nervously, looking around the room. “Are you out of your mind? You’re bringing personal family delusions into a corporate shareholder meeting? This meeting was called to address your financial instability!”

“Was it?” I asked quietly.

I clicked a remote in my hand. The massive projection screen behind the board table lit up.

It didn't display financial charts or merger agreements.

It displayed the high-definition smart-home security footage from my dining room—the exact moment Veronica slipped the diamond bracelet into my mother’s coat pocket.

The boardroom erupted into murmurs.

Veronica’s face drained of all color. She gripped the edge of the table so tightly her knuckles turned ghostly white.

“That... that’s manipulated! Deepfake technology!” she stammered, her voice rising in panic. “He’s fabricating evidence to cover up his mother’s criminal record!”

“That’s not all, Veronica,” I said, clicking the remote again.

The screen changed to show bank routing records, encrypted chat logs between Veronica and Uncle Rogelio, and a signed audio-video confession from Rogelio himself detailing the multi-million-dollar conspiracy to conceal my mother’s survival and fabricate the trust documents.

“You forged my grandfather’s signature,” I said, staring directly into her terrified eyes. “You attempted to steal corporate assets using a dead man’s seal. And you tried to destroy an innocent woman to cover your tracks.”

The federal marshals stepped forward, their footsteps heavy and deliberate against the carpet. They stopped on either side of Veronica’s chair.

“Veronica Santillan,” the lead marshal announced, pulling a pair of steel cuffs from his belt. “You are under arrest for corporate fraud, document forgery, conspiracy, and extortion. Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law.”
