Chapter 5 - Andrew’s Desperate Gamble

By Monday morning, the reality of what Calvin Bennett had engineered began to crush Andrew Vance with the force of an avalanche.
Sitting in the glass-walled conference room of his downtown office building, Andrew stared frantically at his corporate laptop screen. Every single attempt to log into his primary business accounts resulted in a cold, unforgiving error message: Account Frozen – Judicial Trust Injunction.
His cell phone buzzed violently against the mahogany table.
Andrew snatched it up, pressing accept without checking the caller ID. “Hello? Tell me you found a loophole, Todd. Tell me we can file an injunction to lift the asset freeze.”
“I’m sorry, Mr. Vance,” his corporate attorney’s voice came back, sounding profoundly exhausted. “I spent the entire weekend reviewing the documents filed by Colonel Bennett’s legal team. It’s... it’s airtight.”
“Airtight? It’s a domestic dispute! How can a secondary lien lock down my corporate operating capital?” Andrew shouted, standing up and pacing across the carpeted room.
“Because your corporate operating capital was funded using venture loans secured by the primary residential deed—a deed that was legally co-signed and heavily insulated by the Bennett Family Trust,” the lawyer explained carefully. “The moment the primary occupant was forcibly evicted under conditions of malicious abandonment, the trust clauses automatically executed. The court didn't just freeze your personal assets, Mr. Vance. They’ve attached a receivership to your entire business.”
Andrew felt the room spin around him. The multi-million-dollar tech firm he ran, the luxury car lease, the high-rise office lease—everything was tied directly to the financial backing he had leveraged using the house.
A sharp knock sounded at the conference room door before it swung open.
Standing in the doorway was the firm’s senior managing partner, flanked by two corporate security guards.
“Andrew,” the managing partner said coldly, not even bothering to use his title. “Pack your things. The board of directors has received notification of the federal asset attachment and the ongoing fraud investigation into your personal accounts.”
“You can’t do that!” Andrew stammered, his face turning pale. “I built this firm! I brought in the clients!”
“You leveraged corporate solvency against personal real estate fraud,” the partner replied flatly, setting a cardboard box on the table. “You have twenty minutes to clear your desk before security escorts you out of the building. Effective immediately, you are suspended without pay.”

The phone slipped from Andrew’s trembling fingers, clattering against the polished table.
For the first time in his life, the smooth-talking corporate climber realized he had bitten off far more than he could chew. He hadn't just outsmarted a housewife; he had declared war on a retired military strategist who had anticipated every single move he would ever make.
