Chapter 10 - A New Home
One year to the day after the dramatic confrontation on the front steps, the estate looked entirely unrecognizable—in the best possible way.
The manicured gardens were bursting with colorful wildflowers planted by Emma. The old study where Robert and Patricia had plotted our eviction was now converted into a cozy family library filled with children’s books, puzzles, and board games.
To celebrate our first full year of true peace, we didn't host a grand gala for snobbish elites.
Instead, we invited our closest friends from the neighborhood, the teachers who had supported Tyler and Emma through difficult days, and the local baker who brought us pastries when we had nothing.
The backyard was filled with laughter, the smell of grilled burgers, and children running barefoot across the emerald-green grass.
I stood on the back patio holding a cold glass of lemonade, watching Jack teach Tyler how to throw a baseball across the lawn. Emma ran past us wearing a crown made of daisies she had picked herself, shouting happily as the family golden retriever chased her in circles.
Jack caught the baseball, tossed it back to Tyler with an encouraging grin, and then walked over to me, wrapping his strong arms around my waist from behind.
He rested his chin gently on my shoulder, looking out at the sun setting over the Hudson River, painting the sky in brilliant shades of amber, violet, and gold.
“Penny for your thoughts?” Jack murmured softly against my ear.
I turned around in his arms, wrapping my hands around his neck, looking deep into his warm, steady eyes.

“I was just thinking,” I smiled, pressing a soft kiss to his cheek, “that the best stories don't end with a grand castle and an arrogant queen... they end with a little girl, a handmade birthday card, and a family that finally found its way home.”
Jack smiled, pulling me tight against his chest as the evening breeze carried our laughter across the lawn, sealing the past away forever and opening a brilliant, unwritten horizon for our future.
