Chapter 7 - The Siege in the Snow

Outside, the wind howled against the reinforced glass of the Lake Geneva estate, driving sheets of blinding snow horizontally across the lake.
Inside the master suite, the room had been transformed into a sterile delivery ward. Towels, surgical trays, and medical instruments lay organized across the side tables. Dr. Thomas stood at the foot of the bed, his voice calm and methodical, cutting through the heavy, frantic atmosphere.
“Push, Maya! One more contraction, push!”
Maya screamed, her hands locked around Adrian’s wrists with a grip so tight her nails drew blood. Her entire body shook with the monumental effort, every ounce of her strength poured into bringing their child into the world.
“I’m here,” Adrian chanted, his face inches from hers, sweat plastering his dark hair to his forehead. He didn't care about the blood, the pain, or the mess. His eyes were locked on hers, burning with an absolute, devotional fierce intensity. “Look at me, my love. You’re doing it. You’re almost there.”
“Adrian—it hurts—!”
“I know. I know, baby. Focus on me. Breathe.”
Suddenly, a sharp, high-pitched alarm echoed through the house from the security console downstairs.
Grant Mercer’s voice crackled over the secure intercom in the corner of the room.
“Boss! We’ve got movement at the front gates. Moretti’s men. They brought a snow-cat and heavy ordnance. They’re breaching the perimeter!”
Adrian didn't look away from Maya for a single second. His voice dropped into a dark, lethal snarl as he pressed the comms button with his free hand.
“Hold the foyer,” Adrian commanded, his tone dropping the temperature in the room by ten degrees. “Let them into the courtyard. Then bury every last one of them in the snow. Leave no survivors.”
“Copy that, boss,” Grant’s voice came back steady and cold.
“Adrian,” Maya gasped, her voice breaking as another massive contraction hit. “The baby—!”
“Focus on me, Maya!” Adrian shouted over the distant, muffled pop of automatic gunfire echoing from the front gates below. “Nothing touches you. Nothing touches my daughter. Push!”
With one final, earth-shattering scream, Maya arched her back, her hands gripping Adrian’s shoulders as a sudden, sharp wail cut through the noise of the storm.

Dr. Thomas caught the tiny, squirming form, lifting her up toward the light.
“It’s a girl,” the doctor announced, his voice ringing with triumph. “She’s breathing. She’s strong.”
