Chapter 5 - The Siege in Queens

The rain had turned to a freezing drizzle by 3:30 AM, slicking the asphalt of the decaying industrial block in Long Island City, Queens.

The Cedar Motel was a crumbling two-story relic of the 1970s, its neon sign flickering a sickly green over cracked pavement and rusted iron railings.

A sleek, matte-black Mercedes sedan pulled silently into the shadows beside a rusted dumpster across the street, its headlights extinguished.

Inside the car, Dante Rinaldi sat in the passenger seat, loading an extra magazine into his sidearm, his face illuminated by the pale glow of his tactical tablet. Beside him sat Mateo and four heavily armed elite security specialists clad in reinforced body armor.

“Status report,” Dante ordered quietly.

“Thermal imaging confirms three armed operatives inside Room 12 on the ground floor,” Mateo reported, tapping his screen. “Brandon Evans is inside, tied to a chair. They’ve been working him over for the past twenty minutes to get access codes to the Rinaldi logistics server.”

“And Khloe?” Dante asked, his voice tightening.

“Khloe and Lily are currently safe in the secure penthouse suite at the tower, guarded by our best detail,” Mateo reassured him. “They don't know anything about this. We keep it that way.”

Dante nodded once.

“Move in. Fast, quiet, and leave no survivors who can trace this back to our doorstep.”

The team moved like phantoms across the wet asphalt.

Within thirty seconds, they crossed the narrow street, reached the breezeway of the motel, and positioned themselves outside Room 12.

Mateo raised his hand, counting down silently with his fingers: Three... Two... One.

CRASH!

The heavy wooden door of Room 12 splintered inward under the simultaneous force of a tactical ram, tearing off its hinges and slamming against the interior wall.

“Federal!—Hold your fire!—Don't move!” shouted the security team as they swarmed the room in a blur of black tactical gear and laser sights.

Chaos erupted inside the cramped, dingy motel room.

Two Lucchese enforcers, standing over a bloodied, terrified young man tied to a wooden chair, scrambled for their firearms resting on a bedside table.

Bang! Bang!

Two silenced shots cut through the air with the sharp precision of a stapler. Both enforcers collapsed instantly, neutralized before their fingers could even graze their weapon grips.

The third enforcer threw his hands up in the air, dropping his pistol to the linoleum floor. “Don't shoot! Don't shoot! I surrender!”

Mateo subdued him with a swift zip-tie around his wrists, shoving him against the peeling wallpaper.

Dante walked slowly through the shattered doorway, stepping over broken wood and shattered glass. His sharp eyes swept the room, landing on the young man tied to the chair.

Brandon Evans was twenty-six, with dark hair matted with sweat and blood, his lip split and his breathing coming in ragged, terrified gasps. He looked up, squinting against the tactical flashlights, shaking violently.

“Who... who are you?” Brandon whimpered, struggling against the ropes. “Are you Lucchese? Please, I don't have the codes anymore! I swear I don't!”

Dante stopped directly in front of him.

He didn't wear a mask. He let Brandon look right into the cold, unforgiving eyes of the most feared man in New York.

“You’re Brandon Evans,” Dante said, his voice smooth, cold, and cutting like a razor. “Khloe’s brother.”

Brandon blinked, panic flooding his eyes. “Khloe? What do you want with my sister?! Leave her out of this! She doesn't know anything about my debts!”

“Your sister is currently sleeping safely in my penthouse, working a full-time executive position with full medical benefits, while her daughter plays in a secure daycare,” Dante stated flatly.

Brandon stared at him, his mouth hanging open in sheer incomprehension. “You... you’re Dante Rinaldi. You’re the billionaire who owns the tower. Why are you helping her?”

Dante crouched down, bringing his face inches from Brandon’s terrified expression.

“Because your sister and your niece belong to me, Brandon,” Dante whispered, his voice dark with a terrifying, absolute finality. “And you? You stole from my company, you put my family in the crosshairs of a cartel war, and you brought a target onto your sister’s back.”

Brandon began to weep, tears mixing with the blood on his cheeks. “I’m sorry... I was desperate, Mr. Rinaldi. They threatened to kill me—”

“They would have killed you tonight,” Dante interrupted. He stood up slowly, gesturing to Mateo. “Put him in the back of the decoy van. Ship him out to our private agricultural facility in upstate Vermont. He works the fields under armed guard for the next five years until every single dollar of his debt to my company is paid back in sweat and labor. If he tries to run, or if he ever contacts Khloe again to drag her into his filth, he disappears permanently.”

“Understood, boss,” Mateo said, signaling two guards to haul the sobbing young man out of the room.

Dante stood alone in the center of the ruined motel room, listening to the rain continue to fall outside. The chess pieces were moving into place. The war with the Luccheses was inevitable now, but Dante was ready.

He had reclaimed his blood. And he would burn the city to ashes before he let anyone take them away again.
