Chapter 6 - A New Dawn and Sanctuary

Three months later, the autumn leaves had turned into a brilliant canopy of amber and gold across the Patterson estate.
The forty-eighth floor of Patterson Development continued to run like clockwork, but Dominic’s office hours were now strictly capped at four days a week. The other three days belonged entirely to home—to sunlight, laughter, and the steady, rhythmic sound of footsteps echoing down the grand hallway.
In the backyard, the wet lawn of spring had been replaced by a smooth, vibrant green expanse.
Ryan no longer needed his forearm crutches for short distances inside the house. He still used them when fatigue set in, but his therapists at the newly established King-Patterson Pediatric Mobility Foundation—a state-of-the-art center fully funded by Dominic and directed by Norah—were astounded by his miraculous progress.
Dominic sat on the stone terrace, a cup of black coffee in hand, watching the scene unfold on the lawn.
Ryan was kicking a soccer ball toward a small net, laughing wildly as Norah blocked his shot, diving dramatically onto the grass and staining her trousers with green blades.
Dominic smiled, a deep, abiding peace settling into his chest that he hadn't felt since the day he lost his wife. The mansion was no longer a cold, sterile fortress of grief. It was a home—alive, warm, and overflowing with love.
Norah jogged over to the terrace, wiping sweat from her forehead, breathing heavily as she picked up a water bottle. She dropped into the wrought-iron chair beside Dominic, her dark eyes sparkling with exhaustion and happiness.
“You’re going to spoil him, Mr. Patterson,” she teased, taking a long sip of water. “Allowing him to skip his reading session for soccer.”
“It’s Saturday, Dr. King,” Dominic replied, raising an eyebrow with a playful smirk. “Even corporate executives and pediatric geniuses are allowed to take weekends off.”
Norah laughed, the sound warm and melodic against the crisp autumn breeze. She looked out across the lawn where Ryan was practicing a celebratory dance after scoring a goal against an imaginary goalkeeper.
“Thank you, Dominic,” she said softly, her voice dropping the formal title for the first time outside of private moments.
Dominic turned his head, meeting her gaze. The afternoon sun caught the amber flecks in her eyes, making them shine like polished glass. He reached across the table, covering her hand with his own. Her fingers curled naturally into his, warm and strong.
“No, Norah,” Dominic said, his voice thick with emotion and absolute certainty. “Thank you for walking back into my house when I was too blind to see the dark. Don't ever leave us.”
Norah squeezed his hand tightly, a radiant smile illuminating her face.

“I’m not going anywhere, Dominic. I’m right where I belong.”
Out on the lawn, Ryan shouted for them to join the game. Without hesitation, the billionaire CEO and the brilliant doctor stood up together, walking side-by-side onto the sunlit grass, stepping forward into a future that was no longer built on fear, but on courage, family, and love.
