Chapter 8 - The Sanctuary of Dawn

Three months later.
The spring sun rose over the Hudson Valley, painting the restored iron gates of the Moretti estate in a warm, golden hue. The bullet holes in the grand gallery had been repaired, the broken glass replaced, and the walnut clock in the study ticked on with the steady, reassuring rhythm of a peaceful home.
The grand dining room—a room that had once echoed with the ghosts of a lonely billionaire’s solitary dinners—was now filled with the sound of laughter.
At the center of the long mahogany table sat four-year-old Emma, wearing a bright yellow dress and feeding small pieces of pancake to a new, unblemished stuffed rabbit while Mr. Buttons sat proudly beside her plate.
At the head of the table sat Aleandro Moretti.
He wore an open-collared linen shirt, the cold, lethal aura of the Brooklyn Don entirely replaced by the calm, grounded presence of a man who had finally found his true purpose.
Beside him sat Sophia, her hand resting comfortably in his beneath the edge of the table. A simple, elegant platinum band gleamed on her ring finger—a quiet testament to a wedding that had taken place in a quiet chapel two weeks prior, attended only by Marco, little Emma, and the deep, abiding peace of a new beginning.
“Dad?” Emma called out across the table, her big brown eyes fixed brightly on Aleandro.
Aleandro paused, a warm, genuine smile spreading across his face—a smile that had once seemed impossible.
“Yes, Emma?”
“Can we go feed the ducks by the lake after breakfast?”
Aleandro looked at Sophia, whose eyes danced with quiet amusement and deep, enduring love, before looking back at the little girl who had walked into his office on a rainy Thursday night and saved his life.

“We can do whatever you want, sweetheart,” Aleandro said, raising his coffee cup in a silent toast to the morning sun. “We have all the time in the world.”
Outside, the estate stretched out across acres of green lawns and blooming gardens—no longer a fortress built to keep enemies out, but a true sanctuary built to keep love safe. And inside its walls, the shadows of the past had finally surrendered to the light.
