Chapter 7 - The Boardroom Showdown

When I pushed open the heavy double doors of the Whitaker Tower boardroom twenty minutes later, the room was a battlefield.

Twelve board members sat around the massive mahogany table, shouting over one another. At the head of the table stood Julian’s grandfather, flanked by two corporate attorneys, smiling with the smug satisfaction of a man who had won the war.

Julian stood at the opposite end, his expression a mask of cold, dangerous fury, his hands gripping the back of a leather chair so tightly his knuckles were white.

"The vote is unanimous," Arthur Hartwell Sr. announced triumphantly, raising his hand. "Effective immediately, Julian Hartwell is removed as Chief Executive Officer of Hartwell Industries due to gross misconduct, family liability, and financial impropriety—"

"The vote is out of order," a clear, ringing voice cut through the shouting.

Every head in the room snapped toward the double doors.

I stood in the doorway, wearing my navy coat, holding Rose securely against my chest. Behind me stood Arthur Vance, carrying a heavy stack of forensic accounting files.

"Clara?" Julian breathed, his eyes widening in shock and disbelief. "What are you doing here? It's not safe—"

"You think I'm going to let these old cowards steal your life while you're trying to protect ours?" I said, walking down the center aisle with absolute, unshakeable poise.

Julian’s grandfather scowled, slamming his fist on the table. "Guards! Remove this woman and her illegitimate child from the premises immediately! This is a private corporate assembly!"

"Sit down, Arthur," I said, my voice cutting through the room with the force of a whip.

The old man blinked, taken aback by my authority.

I reached the head of the table, stopped right beside Julian, and placed my hand firmly over his clenched fist. He looked down at me, his eyes swimming with a mixture of awe and fierce protection.

"You claim Julian embezzled corporate funds to support me," I said, turning my gaze to the trembling board members. "Here are the complete financial records of my clinic salary, my apartment lease, and every hospital bill paid over the last ten months. Not a single cent of Hartwell capital touched my hands. Furthermore..."

I turned to Arthur Vance, who stepped forward and dropped a heavy leather binder onto the table in front of the grandfather.

"...under clause fourteen of the original Hartwell family trust, any board member attempting to falsify corporate documents to orchestrate a hostile takeover automatically forfeits their voting shares and seat on the board."

The grandfather’s face turned the color of chalk. "That's... that's a lie! Fabricated documents!"

" Verified by federal independent auditors twenty minutes ago," Arthur Vance added smoothly, sliding copies to every board member. "The SEC has already been notified of fraudulent market manipulation by Arthur Hartwell Senior and his associates."

Silence descended upon the boardroom—a heavy, suffocating silence where everyone realized the tide had completely turned.

Julian didn't hesitate. He stepped forward, his eyes locking onto the trembling old man.

"Meeting adjourned," Julian said quietly, his voice carrying the absolute weight of a true CEO. "Security will escort my grandfather from the building. Effective immediately."
