Chapter 7 - The Downfall of Hale

By the following week, the downfall of the Hale family and the Vane Syndicate was complete, absolute, and broadcast on every major news network in the nation.
Thanks to the forensic financial trail Ivy had compiled, federal prosecutors dismantled Senator Hale’s political machine overnight. Charges of treason, attempted murder, extortion, and bribery were filed against Victor Hale, Dominic Vane, and Vivien Hale.
Vivien’s mugshot—depicting her tear-streaked face, smeared makeup, and unkempt hair—was plastered across the front cover of every tabloid in America. The woman who had wielded a whip in a ballroom was now facing fifteen years in a federal penitentiary.
Meanwhile, Blackwood Consortium soared to unprecedented heights.
With Ivy officially installed as CFO and Executive Vice Chair, stock prices hit an all-time high. The company transitioned completely away from its dark underworld past, emerging as a global powerhouse in green logistics and international finance.
On a bright, sunny Thursday afternoon, Ivy stood in her brand-new corner office on the eightieth floor of the Blackwood Tower.
The room was vast, filled with warm sunlight, marble floors, and a sweeping panoramic view of Grayhaven’s harbor. On her desk sat a framed photograph of Emily Carter—who had been granted a full university scholarship by the Blackwood Foundation—and old Malcolm, smiling in his butler’s uniform.
The door opened softly.
Ronan walked in, wearing a tailored navy suit, holding a small velvet box in his hand.
Ivy turned around from the window, smiling as he approached. “The harbor permits were officially approved by the governor five minutes ago.”
“I know,” Ronan smiled, stopping in front of her. “I just spoke with the board. They tried to vote to give you a twenty-million-dollar annual performance bonus.”
Ivy laughed softly. “I turned it down. I don't need twenty million dollars.”
“I know you don't,” Ronan said, his voice turning deep and resonant. “Because everything I have already belongs to you.”
He took her soft hand, raising it to his lips, kissing her knuckles gently.
“Ivy Lancaster,” Ronan said, stepping closer, looking into her warm brown eyes with infinite devotion. “You came into my house when I was surrounded by wolves. You healed my business, you protected my life, and you showed me what true strength looks like.”
He dropped to one knee on the plush carpet of her office.
Ivy’s breath caught in her throat, her hands flying to her mouth as tears gathered in her eyes.
Ronan opened the velvet box. Inside rested a magnificent ten-carat emerald-cut diamond ring, sparkling like sunlight on ocean waves.
“Will you do me the honor of becoming my wife?” Ronan asked softly. “Will you sit beside me as the Queen of Blackwood?”
May you like
“Yes!” Ivy sobbed happily, dropping to her knees beside him and wrapping her arms around his neck. “Yes, Ronan! A thousand times yes!”
He slid the ring onto her finger, pulled her into his arms, and kissed her deeply as the sun beamed down through the glass walls of the city they now ruled together.
