Chapter 10 - A New Dawn
The sun rose over Lake Michigan on a brilliant, crisp morning in early spring, painting the Chicago skyline in magnificent shades of gold, sapphire, and rose.
In the sun-drenched gardens behind the Westwood estate, thousands of tulips had finally bloomed—red, yellow, and pure white.
Adrian stood on the flagstone patio holding a cup of black coffee, watching the morning mist lift off the manicured lawn.
Footsteps echoed softly behind him.
He turned to see Rachel walking out onto the patio, carrying a tray of fresh pastries, followed closely by Emma, who was wearing a bright yellow spring dress and clutching her trusty stuffed rabbit.
“Good morning, Mr. Westwood,” Rachel smiled warmly.
“Good morning, Rachel,” Adrian replied, kneeling down as Emma ran up to him and tugged playfully on his trousers.
“Uncle Adrian! Can we feed the koi fish in the fountain now?” Emma asked, her gray eyes shining with excitement.
Adrian chuckled, picking her up effortlessly and setting her on his shoulders. “Only if you promise to share the fish food equally between the big red one and the little gold one.”
“I promise!” Emma beamed, giggling as she wrapped her small hands around his hair.
Rachel watched them, her heart full of gratitude and peace. “You’ve given us a wonderful life here, Mr. Westwood. More than I ever dreamed possible.”
“We gave it to each other, Rachel,” Adrian corrected gently, looking out across the sprawling estate that was once again filled with life, laughter, and truth.
He looked toward the horizon where the sun was breaking through the morning clouds, casting a brilliant, golden path across the water.
