Chapter 7 - The Boardroom Showdown

The executive boardroom on the seventieth floor of Holloway Technologies looked out over the panoramic skyline of Seattle, where the morning sun was just beginning to burn through the grey mist of dawn.
At the massive mahogany conference table sat the twelve members of the board of directors. At the head sat Julian Vance—impeccably tailored, silver-haired, and radiating the calm, predatory confidence of a man who believed he had already won.
“Good morning, ladies and gentlemen,” Julian began, standing up and adjusting his cuffs. “We are here for an extraordinary session to vote on the emergency guardianship transfer for Maya Holloway, ensuring structural stability for the corporation moving forward.”
He slid a thick stack of papers across the mahogany table toward the empty chair reserved for the CEO.
“As you know, Graham is dealing with severe family distractions,” Julian continued smoothly. “Signing this document allows us to consolidate voting shares and move forward with the merger unhindered.”
The heavy glass doors of the boardroom swung open with a sharp, echoing click.
Every head turned.
Graham Holloway walked into the room. He didn't look like a defeated man. He walked with his shoulders squared, his charcoal suit immaculate, and his eyes burning with a cold, terrifying clarity.
Behind him walked Maya—dressed in a sharp, professional navy blazer—and right beside her stood Claire Bennett, carrying the leather-bound document folio.
Julian Vance’s polished smile faltered for a fraction of a second, though he quickly recovered. “Graham. You’re late. And... why are they here? This is a closed corporate proceeding.”
“It’s a family matter, Julian,” Graham said smoothly, taking his seat at the head of the table. He didn't touch the guardianship papers. Instead, he placed his hands flat on the mahogany table. “And before we vote on anything, we need to examine an audit of the digital server logs from last Tuesday.”
Julian’s face tightened. A bead of sweat formed near his temple. “There is no need for technical audits. We have medical sign-offs confirming—”
“You have forged medical sign-offs,” a clear, ringing voice interrupted.
Claire stepped forward, opening the leather folio and placing the original trust agreement directly in front of the lead independent board director.
“My name is Claire Bennett,” she announced to the silent boardroom. “I am Maya Holloway’s designated language interpreter and legal proxy advocate. What you are looking at is the unedited, authentic trust document of the late Rebecca Holloway, proving beyond any shadow of a doubt that Maya’s voting rights are absolute, unalienable, and protected by federal statute.”
“This is an outrage!” Julian shouted, slamming his hand on the table. “Some freelance nobody comes in here with unverified paperwork—”
“It’s verified by federal cryptographic watermark, Julian,” Graham interrupted, his voice dropping into a tone that made the entire board hold its collective breath. He leaned forward, locking his eyes onto his longtime advisor. “And forensic investigators pulled your private IP address accessing the server room to alter the execution date three nights ago.”
Silence fell over the boardroom like an avalanche.
Several board members gasped, leaning away from Julian as if he carried a contagious disease.
Maya stepped up beside her father, her hands moving with swift, authoritative elegance that Claire translated aloud for the entire room to hear.
“You thought because I couldn't hear your spoken words, I couldn't see your corruption,” Maya signed, her dark eyes flashing with unyielding strength. “You thought I was just a decoration you could lock away in a dark room. But the decoration is taking back the company.”
Julian Vance stared around the room, realizing in a single horrifying second that his multi-million-dollar conspiracy had completely unraveled. He snatched his briefcase off the floor, turned on his heel, and bolted for the boardroom doors without saying another word.

The lead independent director looked down at the authentic trust document, then up at Graham and Maya. He slowly slid the fraudulent guardianship papers off the table and dropped them into the recycling bin.
“Motion denied,” the director said clearly. “And an immediate internal investigation into Mr. Vance’s activities is hereby initiated.”
