Chapter 8 - The Confrontation at Harrington Tower

Victor’s smile vanished completely. His eyes hardened into steel.
"This is ridiculous," Victor scoffed, standing up straight. "Ethan, you've clearly suffered some kind of nervous breakdown. You’re bringing personal fantasies into a professional corporate environment. Security—"
"Security isn't coming, Victor," Ethan said smoothly. "I replaced the building's head of security two hours ago."
Ethan reached into his coat pocket, pulled out a small black flash drive, and tossed it onto the center of the table.
"On that drive are forensic financial audits completed at three o'clock this morning by the Securities and Exchange Commission," Ethan announced. "They traced the two point four million dollars routed through Swiss accounts in 2015. The final recipient wasn't Clara Delgado. It was a shell company registered in the Cayman Islands under the name Sterling Global Enterprises."
Gasps rippled across the conference table. Several board members pushed their chairs back in shock.
"That's a lie!" Victor snarled, his face reddening. "That drive proves nothing!"
"It proves everything," Maria’s voice rang out, steady and clear. She stepped forward, her eyes locked onto Victor. "It also includes the sworn deposition of the mechanic in Gary, Indiana, whom you paid twenty thousand dollars to alter Clara’s medical records and keep her location hidden from Ethan."
Victor turned his glare onto Maria, his jaw clenching. "You worthless little maid... you think anyone in this room is going to take the word of a cleaning lady over mine?"
"No," Ethan said softly, stepping directly between Victor and Maria. "They don't have to take her word. They can take mine. And they can take the word of the United States Attorney’s Office."
The double doors of the boardroom opened once more.
Four federal agents in dark suits entered the room, led by a sharp-eyed female prosecutor carrying an official arrest warrant.
"Victor Sterling," the prosecutor announced. "You are under arrest for federal wire fraud, extortion, corporate embezzlement, and obstruction of justice."
Victor backed away toward the floor-to-ceiling glass window, his chest heaving, his immaculate composure entirely destroyed. "Ethan... wait! Listen to me! I did it for the company! You were weak back then! You were going to let that girl distract you from building this empire!"
Ethan looked at Victor with absolute pity.
"You didn't build an empire, Victor," Ethan said softly, holding Lily’s small hand in his own. "You built a cage. And I am finally breaking out."
The federal agents stepped forward, pulling Victor’s arms behind his back and snapping steel handcuffs around his wrists. The once-mighty legal titan was led out of the glass tower in silence, passing dozens of employees who watched in utter shock.

Ethan turned back to the remaining board members, who were sitting in stunned silence.
"The board meeting is adjourned," Ethan said calmly. "And for the record... I am resigning as CEO."
