Chapter 10 - The Fortress of the Heart

Six months later.

The grand gardens of the Vale estate on Port Lawson harbor were filled with thousands of white roses, their sweet fragrance carrying across the ocean breeze.

Over two hundred guests sat in the gilded outdoor pavilion—business leaders, city officials, and loyal members of the Vale syndicate, all dressed in formal black-tie attire.

At the front of the altar stood Adrian Vale, looking impeccably handsome in a custom black tuxedo, a white rose pinned to his lapel. Beside him stood Mason Reed as his best man, looking proud and sharp.

The organ music swelled, rising into a beautiful, triumphant melody.

Walking down the rose-petal aisle was three-year-old Lily, wearing a tiny white satin flower-girl dress, her silver rabbit necklace sparkling brightly under the afternoon sun. She held a basket of rose petals, scattering them with enthusiastic, playful tosses.

Behind her came Grace.

She took everyone's breath away. Grace wore a sweeping ivory lace wedding gown with a long silk veil that trailed gently across the green lawn. Her dark hair was styled in soft waves, her face radiant with pure, unadulterated happiness.

When Grace reached the altar, Adrian took her hand, his thumb gently caressing her knuckles as he looked into her eyes with boundless love.

"You look breathtaking, Mrs. Vale," Adrian whispered softly.

"You don't look so bad yourself, Mr. Vale," Grace smiled back.

The priest read the traditional vows, his voice echoing across the sunny garden.

"Do you, Adrian, take Grace to be your lawfully wedded wife, to have and to hold, in sickness and in health, for richer or poorer, until death do you part?"

"I do," Adrian said, his voice firm, powerful, and absolute.

"And do you, Grace, take Adrian to be your lawfully wedded husband?"

"I do," Grace replied, her heart swelling with complete peace.

"By the power vested in me," the priest announced, "I now pronounce you husband and wife. You may kiss the bride."

Adrian pulled Grace into his arms, dipping her back slightly as he kissed her deeply, surrounded by the roaring applause and cheers of their friends and family.

After the ceremony, as the sun began to set over the blue waters of Port Lawson harbor, the new family stood together at the edge of the stone terrace overlooking the sea.

Adrian held Grace tightly around her waist, while Lily sat happily on his broad shoulder, holding her gray rabbit in one hand and her mother's hand in the other.

A cool, sweet evening breeze blew across the terrace, carrying the rich scent of blooming white roses, salt sea spray, and fresh pine trees.

Lily leaned down, touching her nose to Adrian's cheek.

"Daddy?" she whispered.

"Yes, my little rabbit?" Adrian asked, looking up at her with a warm smile.

Lily sniffed the air one last time, a bright, beautiful grin spreading across her small face.

"Our home smells like love," Lily said softly.

Adrian looked at Grace, wrapping his arm tighter around his wife as the golden twilight filled the horizon.

"Yes, sweetheart," Adrian whispered, kissing Grace's hand. "It sure does."
