The negotiations didn't take long. Facing insurmountable evidence on all fronts—including aggravated child abuse, kidnapping conspiracy, and financial fraud—both defendants chose to plead guilty in exchange for avoiding a prolonged public trial.
Three weeks later, the sentencing hearing took place.
Judge Harrison didn't hold back.
“The actions committed by Evelyn Vance and Taylor Hayes represent a profound and unforgivable betrayal of the most sacred trust known to humanity: the protection of a helpless child,” Judge Harrison announced, his voice echoing across the silent courtroom.
Evelyn Vance was sentenced to twenty-five years in federal and state prison without the possibility of early parole for aggravated child abuse and financial crimes.
Taylor Hayes received a fifteen-year sentence, with the judge noting her active participation in the abuse and her deliberate cover-up attempts.
