Chapter 10 - The Sovereign Morning
Six months later. Spring 2026.
The Lake Forest estate was filled with the radiant light of May. The gardens were blooming with white roses, blue hydrangeas, and yellow tulips.
On the wrap-around veranda overlooking the lawn, a long wooden table was set with fresh fruit, pastries, warm coffee, and orange juice.
Adrian Mercer sat at the head of the table. His hearing was fully restored, his health completely returned, and his presence more commanding than ever. Mercer Ridge Technologies had just announced its highest quarterly earnings in history, while Vanessa Hale and her co-conspirators had been sentenced to twenty-five years in federal prison.
Sitting across from him was Nora, looking elegant and serene in a simple blue summer dress. She had taken over as the Director of the Mercer Ridge Foundation for Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing Children—a new philanthropic organization funded entirely by Adrian.
Beside her sat Lily, now five years old, wearing a bright yellow dress. She was eating a blueberry pancake, her face covered in maple syrup, while a tiny golden retriever puppy sat beside her chair, waiting for scraps.
Adrian picked up his coffee cup, looking at the little girl who had saved his life.
Lily set her fork down, looked at Adrian across the sunlit table, and raised her hands.
With fluid, graceful precision, she signed: You are happy today.
Adrian set his cup down. He smiled—a warm, deep, genuine smile that reached his eyes—and signed back: Because I have my family.
