Chapter 6 - The Trap is Set

Dawn broke over Denver with a cold, unforgiving light.
Natalie and Adam, working alongside Detective Miller and a tactical unit from the state police, formulated an operation designed to draw out the perpetrators while securing the rugged terrain around Miller Creek.
The strategy was simple: leak a fabricated report to local media stating that search-and-rescue teams had recovered an unidentified survivor from the ravine who was currently conscious and talking at St. Jude’s Hospital.
If Apex Logistics executives were behind the hit, paranoia would force them to make a move.
By 2:00 p.m., surveillance units staked out the hospital perimeter, while a second tactical team moved in on the corporate headquarters of Apex Logistics downtown.
Natalie sat in an unmarked cruiser parked two blocks away from the hospital, her eyes glued to her binoculars. The radio crackled to life.
“Unit three in position,” whispered an officer over the comms. “Black SUV matching the description—late-model Tahoe with tinted windows—just turned onto Cherry Street. They’re circling the hospital block.”
“Let them park,” Natalie instructed, her heart pounding. “Do not engage until they attempt to enter the building or access restricted corridors.”
Minutes stretched like hours. The black SUV pulled into the hospital’s subterranean parking garage, idling near the emergency exit stairwell. Two men stepped out, dressed in dark jackets and surgical masks, moving with calculated, military-like precision.
They weren't just thugs; they were professionals hired to tie up loose ends.

As the two men slipped through the heavy fire doors into the hospital basement, Natalie signaled the tactical team.
“Move in. Secure all exits. Nobody leaves this building.”
