Chapter 10 - A New Dawn for Mia and Harper

Six months later, the spring sun bathed the manicured lawns of the Hudson Valley estate in vibrant shades of emerald green and golden light.
The cherry blossoms along the grand driveway were in full bloom, their delicate pink petals drifting softly in the gentle breeze.
Inside the main courtyard, little Harper was chasing a golden retriever puppy across the grass, her laughter echoing up toward the stone terrace where Dominic stood watching with a cup of black coffee in hand.
Mia stepped out onto the terrace, carrying a clipboard filled with the estate’s weekly supply inventory. She wore a tailored navy blue dress, her posture confident, her head held high.
“The caterers for the spring gala just arrived at the east gate, Mr. Vale,” Mia said, her voice professional, yet laced with a warm, easy familiarity that had grown over the months. “I checked their credentials and cross-referenced their staff list against our security database. Everything is clean.”
Dominic turned, taking the clipboard from her hands and setting it down on the wrought-iron table.
“You don’t need to vet caterers personally anymore, Mia. That’s what the junior staff is for,” Dominic said with a faint smile.
“Habits die hard,” Mia replied, her eyes sparkling with amusement. “Besides, I like making sure things are done right.”
“I’ve noticed,” Dominic said quietly, looking out across the lawn where Harper had just tripped over the puppy and tumbled into the grass with a squeal of delight.
For thirty years, Dominic Vale had built an empire on fear, isolation, and suspicion. He had trusted no one, loved no one, and believed that emotional attachments were simply weaknesses waiting to be exploited by rivals.
He had been wrong.
The betrayal had nearly destroyed him, but it had also burned away the dead weight. In its place stood something real—a home built not on threats and locked cellar doors, but on trust, loyalty, and survival.
Harper scrambled up from the grass, brushed off her knees, and ran toward the terrace, waving frantically.
“Dominic! Mommy! Look what the puppy found!”
Dominic smiled, walking down the stone steps toward them with Mia right by his side.
The nightmare in the wine cellar was a distant memory. The monsters who had tried to tear his world apart were buried in unmarked graves, forgotten by the world.
