Chapter 10 - The Best Revenge

Another Christmas arrived, bright, warm, and blue-skied in Central Texas.

Our estate was decorated with thousands of twinkling white lights, a massive pine tree standing proudly in the two-story living room, and the delicious scent of cinnamon and roasted ham filling the air.

This year, there were no cold mountain landings, no arrogant ex-husbands, and no shattered wineglasses.

There was only warmth.

My brother and his family had flown in from California. Dana, my loyal assistant who had stood by me since the early days of Vance Tech, was sitting by the fireplace sharing a laugh with Liam.

The quadruplets, now nine years old, were sitting around the grand piano in the living room. Sophia played a joyful holiday tune while Noah, Ethan, and Olivia sang along at the top of their lungs, entirely out of key, their laughter bouncing off the walls.

I stood by the archway, holding a warm glass of spiced cider, watching the life I had built.

Eight years ago, when Marcus Reynolds walked out of that tiny apartment and left me weeping on the linoleum floor, I thought my world had ended. I thought the weight of raising four children alone would crush me into nothingness.

I didn't know then that his abandonment was not a curse.

It was a divine deliverance.

He had removed himself so that he wouldn't poison the extraordinary lives these four children were meant to have. He had stepped aside so that I could discover the fierce, unstoppable power hidden inside my own heart.

Liam walked up behind me, wrapping his arms gently around my waist and resting his chin on my shoulder.

“What are you thinking about, CEO?” he whispered playfully into my ear.

I smiled, turning my head to press a tender kiss to his cheek.

“I’m thinking about how sweet life is,” I said, looking out at my four beautiful children, whose faces were filled with pure, unburdened joy.

I had survived the cold. I had conquered the storm. And as I stood in the warm light of my home, surrounded by true love and absolute abundance, I knew with every fiber of my being that the best revenge was never about causing pain.

It was about living a life so magnificent, so full, and so triumphant that the past could never reach you again.
