Chapter 8 - The Boardroom Ambush

Monday morning at 8:45 AM.

The executive boardroom on the fiftieth floor of Mercer North was packed to capacity. Sunlight poured through the glass skyscraper, illuminating the mahogany conference table where twelve senior board members sat in tense, whispered silence.

Julian Mercer sat at the head of the table—Daniel’s seat. He was wearing an expensive custom-tailored suit, a smug, triumphant smile plastered across his face.

The double doors swung open.

Daniel walked in. He wasn't wearing a casual shirt today; he was back in his razor-sharp three-piece charcoal suit, his expression carved from granite. Behind him walked Marcus and two federal securities investigators.

Julian’s smug smile flickered for a fraction of a second before he quickly recovered.

“Ah, Daniel,” Julian said smoothly, standing up. “Glad you could tear yourself away from your domestic babysitting duties. The board was just discussing your recent... absence from daily operations.”

Daniel didn't answer right away. He walked slowly around the table, stopping directly behind Julian’s chair.

“Sit down, Julian,” Daniel said quietly.

“Excuse me? This is my seat as executive vice president—”

“Sit down,” Daniel repeated, his voice carrying the terrifying authority that had built an empire.

Julian slowly sat down, his eyes darting toward the two federal investigators standing by the door.

Daniel tossed a thick manila folder onto the center of the mahogany table. The papers slid across the polished wood, stopping right in front of the lead board member.

“What is this?” the senior board member asked, opening the folder.

“That,” Daniel said, his eyes locked onto his brother, “is a comprehensive record of unauthorized offshore wire transfers, insider trading leaks, and corporate espionage orchestrated by my brother in active collusion with Richard Vance and Apex Logistics.”

Chaos erupted instantly in the boardroom. Board members began shouting over one another, flipping through pages of bank statements, encrypted email logs, and shell-company registries.

“This is a fabrication!” Julian screamed, jumping to his feet, his face turning pale with panic. “Daniel is unstable! He’s been out of his mind since Ellie died! He’s trying to frame me because he can’t handle running the company!”

“Was I out of my mind when you forged my signature on the offshore shipping contracts last November?” Daniel asked calmly, leaning over the table.

Julian opened his mouth, but no words came out. The color completely drained from his face. He realized he had been checkmated.

“Federal marshals,” Daniel said, nodding toward the door.

Before Julian could dash toward the exit, the two investigators stepped forward, grabbing his arms and snapping heavy steel handcuffs around his wrists with a sharp, echoing click.

“You can’t do this to me! I’m a Mercer!” Julian shrieked as he was dragged backward out of the boardroom, his expensive suit dragging against the carpet.

The heavy oak doors slammed shut behind him.

Silence descended upon the boardroom once again. The twelve board members looked at Daniel with a mixture of fear and profound respect. The king had returned to his throne, and the usurper was gone.

“Meeting adjourned,” Daniel said smoothly, turning around and walking out of the room without looking back.
