Chapter 6 - The Public Execution

I held up a high-definition, color printout of my mother’s facial injuries and the forensic X-rays showing the three wrist fractures.
The lead reporter gasped, immediately signaling his cameraman to zoom in on the photographs.
"Yesterday afternoon," I continued, my tone smooth and unwavering, "I returned home early to find my mother—who suffers from severe, debilitating rheumatoid arthritis—being subjected to physical torture. This is the medical report from Dr. Harrison, confirming felony-level elder abuse."
Eleanor’s dramatic weeping stopped instantly. Her face drained of all color. "That... that’s a lie! She fell!"
"Did she fall, Eleanor?" I asked, turning my gaze directly onto her. "Or did you strike her because she refused to give you her land trust documents?"
I pulled out a small black flash drive and handed it to the lead news producer.
"On this drive is forty-eight hours of unedited, high-definition security footage from inside the residence," I stated into the live microphones. "It shows Mrs. Eleanor Miller striking an ill, defenseless woman across the face. It shows my husband, Mark Miller, pinning his mother-in-law against a kitchen counter and threatening her while my two-year-old children cried in terror."
Mark stepped back, horror paralyzing his face. "Claire... don't do this..."
"It also contains the legal ownership documents for both houses," I added, turning back to the reporters. "Every property, every vehicle, and every asset Mark Miller claimed to own was purchased entirely by my company. Yesterday, I exercised my legal right as sole owner to terminate access to my private accounts."
The lead reporter turned his microphone away from me and shoved it directly into Mark’s face. "Mr. Miller! Did you physically assault your mother-in-law? Is it true you've been living off your wife's assets while abusing her mother?"
"No! Comment! No comment!" Mark stuttered, shielding his face from the flashing cameras as he pulled his mother backward away from the gate.

"Furthermore," I concluded, looking into the primary broadcast camera, "the District Attorney’s office has officially accepted our criminal filing. Warrants are currently being processed."
Eleanor stumbled over her own shoes, nearly falling onto the concrete as the news crew aggressively pursued them down the sidewalk, cameras rolling, broadcasting their humiliation to hundreds of thousands of viewers in real time.
