Chapter 5 - The Security Footage

The grand velvet curtains behind the dais automatically parted, revealing a massive, eighty-inch high-definition digital display. The lights in the chamber dimmed automatically.

The screen flickered, displaying crisp, ultra-high-definition 4K surveillance footage with full crystal-clear audio capture.

The timestamp in the corner read: 1:14:22 PM.

On the screen, the door to the East Pavilion hallway opened. Helena Vance was seen aggressively dragging little Seven-year-old Isla by her arm, pulling her into the ladies' restroom. Isla was holding a small stuffed bear, her eyes wide with fear.

The camera angle inside the restroom corridor showed everything.

Helena slammed the door shut, locking it from the inside. She cornered the tiny girl against the tile wall.

The audio played loudly through the chamber’s surround-sound speakers, filling the space with horrifying clarity:

“Stay still, you little brat,” Helena’s recorded voice sneered, echoing off the wooden paneling of the boardroom. “You think you can compete with my son? Look at you. You look like garbage.”

On the screen, Isla curled into a ball, weeping quietly. “Please, Aunt Helena... it hurts... I want my Mommy...”

“Your mother is a nobody, and so are you!” Helena’s recorded voice shrieked on the video. She grabbed a large plastic cup, filled it with ice-cold water from the basin, and threw it directly into Isla’s face and chest.

Isla gasped, choking on the water, shivering violently as her white dress became drenched.

The five board members sat in total, paralyzed horror. Trustee Thornton’s hands shook with righteous anger. The female trustees covered their mouths, tears of disgust welling in their eyes.

Then came the climax of the video. Emily burst into the room, shouting Helena's name. Helena threw the cup aside, sneered at Emily, and delivered her parting words: “She looked too unfit to even enter an elite interview. Know your place and take her home. You’re embarrassing my family. You’re both pathetic.”

The video froze on Helena’s arrogant, smug face as she walked out of the restroom, leaving a sobbing child on the cold tile floor.

The screen went black. The chamber lights turned back up.

The silence that followed was terrifying.

Helena was shaking uncontrollably, clutching the edge of the mahogany desk to keep from collapsing. Young Leo sat beside her, confused and frightened by the heavy atmosphere, dropping his tablet onto the floor.

"That..." Trustee Thornton whispered, his voice shaking with absolute fury as he stood up, pointing a trembling finger at Helena. "That is the most monstrous, despicable display of cowardice and cruelty I have ever witnessed on the grounds of this academy!"

"It... it's a lie!" Helena wailed desperately, her voice cracking into a hideous shriek. "It was edited! She doctored the video! Emily set me up! That brat was insolent to me! She insulted my son! I was just... I was just teaching her manners!"

"She is seven years old!" Trustee Vance—a senior trustee unrelated to Emily's late husband—roared, slamming both palms onto the table. "You physically assaulted a seven-year-old child! You locked her in a room and poured freezing water over her to sabotage her interview! In twenty years on this board, I have never seen such vile, subhuman behavior!"

Emily sat silently on her throne, watching Helena unravel like a thread pulled from a cheap garment. She did not raise her voice. She did not show anger. Her composure was that of a judge delivering a final, absolute sentence.

"Helena Vance," Emily said softly, her voice cutting through the chaos like a sharp blade. "Crestwood Meridian Academy was founded on principles of excellence, honor, and humanity. You have demonstrated that you possess none of these qualities. Your actions today are not merely an insult to this institution; they are a criminal violation."

"You can't do this!" Helena screamed, tears of rage and humiliation streaming down her ruined makeup. "My husband is Marcus Vance! We own Vance Logistics! We have influence in this city! If you reject my son, I will ruin you! I will drag your name through every tabloid in the state!"

"Your husband's company operates on a commercial credit facility managed by the Crestwood Endowment Trust," Emily replied coldly, taking a sleek pen from her desk. "A trust over which I hold sole fiduciary power. If you wish to discuss financial ruin, Helena, I suggest you check your husband's corporate balance sheet before sunset today."

Helena choked on her own breath. Her eyes went wide with a new, terrifying realization of just how deep Emily's authority reached.

"As Principal of Crestwood Meridian Academy," Emily declared, raising her head, "I officially declare candidate Leopold Vance permanently banned from admission to this institution, effective immediately. Furthermore, Mrs. Helena Vance is formally designated Persona Non Grata on all academy properties nationwide."

Emily looked at the two uniformed security officers standing at the back of the room.

"Officers," Emily commanded quietly. "Escort Mrs. Vance and her son off the campus grounds immediately. If she resists, contact the Metropolitan Police Department and press formal charges of child assault and trespassing."
